The Pawsome Print
January 15, 2021
Dear Pawsome Loring Families,
I know the last week or so has been extremely difficult for students, families, and teachers. The acts of violence that took place on January 6, 2021 left many feeling angered, terrified, and disappointed. Many students and adults are filled with questions, concerns, and worries. Here are some articles I have found that may be helpful if your child has questions about things that are happening around them.
Some of you have shared books and resources with me and I always welcome those recommendations. If you have come across other resources, please share them with me as well.

Isolation and Quarantine Guidance
I know there continues to be a lot of information shared and changes to the information so I wanted to provide this here again in hopes to clarify questions that you may have.
Isolation
For those who have been diagnosed with COVID, isolation continues to be for 10 days as long as there has been significant improvement in symptoms and no fever without the use of fever reducing medications.
What is isolation?
During isolation, the COVID-positive person should stay home, completely separate themselves from others, and monitor their symptoms. When possible, anyone sick or infected should separate from others, stay in a specific “sick room” or area, and use a separate bathroom (if available).
Quarantine
What is quarantine?
Quarantine is used to keep someone who might have been exposed to COVID-19 away from others. Quarantine helps prevent the spread of disease that can occur before a person knows they are sick or if they are infected with the virus without feeling symptoms. People in quarantine should stay home, separate themselves from others, and monitor their health.
There are three possible quarantine options for people who have been identified as close contacts. The first two require strict compliance with quarantine as well as active monitoring of symptoms and the person must remain completely asymptomatic during the entire period. Anyone who develops symptoms or is unable to commit to active monitoring of symptoms must continue to follow the 14 day quarantine option.
Active Monitoring: The individual must actively monitor symptoms and take their temperature once daily. If even mild symptoms develop or the individual has a temperature of 100.0 F, they must immediately self-isolate, contact the public health authority overseeing their quarantine and get tested.
Option 1
7 days of strict quarantine, release on Day 8 IF:
A test (either PCR or antigen) taken on Day 5 or later is negative AND
The individual has not experienced any symptoms up to that point AND
The individual conducts active monitoring through Day 14.
10 days of strict quarantine, release on Day 11 IF:
The individual has not experienced any symptoms up to that point AND
The individual conducts active monitoring through Day 14
No test is necessary under this option
Option 3
14 days of strict quarantine, release on Day 15 IF:
The individual has experienced ANY symptoms during the quarantine period EVEN if they have a negative COVID-19 test;
OR
The individual indicates they are unwilling or unable to conduct active monitoring
We are happy to answer any questions you may have at any time, and will continue to provide you with updates as they become available.
New BinaxNow COVID-19 Testing at Loring
Below is a link to a letter providing more details about the testing available to in person students and staff starting Tuesday, January 19th.
To give permission for your student to participate in the BinaxNOW COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Diagnostic Test, including permitting the school to share the test result information with the Department of Public Health and Project Beacon (a third party non-profit organization contracted to compile consent for testing and to share test results), you will need to set up an account. We encourage you to do this now and not wait until it is necessary for your child to be tested.
The parent/guardian consent form code for Loring Elementary School students is AZRMDK. If you already have an account with One Beacon you will need a second account specific to this link and Loring School for your student.
All questions related to Project Beacon registration should be directed to their help desk.

Greeting of the Week
We are looking to learn how to say Good Morning in more languages! If your child or family would like to be part of our morning announcements, please record them saying Good Morning in another language and send it to Mr. Gaita or Mrs. Harvey. In the recording have your child say their name, and how to say good morning in the language. Have them repeat the good morning three times so we can learn. Here is an example.
Hi, I am Sara Harvey and I am going to teach you how to say good morning in French. You say Bonjour. Say it with me, Bonjour. Bonjour.
This is what we have learned so far!
