Proctor Tips & Tricks
What Test are you going to take
Students Will Need
iPads (K-1 Only)
Download the NWEA MAP Testing App from iTunes for iPads that will be used for testing.
Headphones, be sure each iPad to be used for testing has working headphones.
Computers (2nd-5th)
Students may use scratch paper and a pencil if they need.
Grades 2-5 should test in the computer lab/testing environment.
Other Helpful Hints
- Do not start everyone at one time. This can cause network performance to decline.
- Consider recommending a break for a student after 25 minutes of testing.
- A student test can easily be “paused” for a short break.
- Consider using “Guided Access.”
- If a student repeatedly leaves the MAP App on an iPad, Guided Access will force the iPad to stay logged into the MAP assessment.
Kindergarten & 1st Grade Bilingual Classrooms
We have worked with ESL/Bilingual,C&I, and MAP to makes sure that we are accommodating for all students, therefore getting valid and useable data from MAP math. Since MAP math is not offered in Spanish for K-1, you can now translate the math assessment for the student. This will allow you to have all the benefits of MAP and provide the best testing environment for your students. We continue to recommend that the translation be done in a small group setting, by a bilingual teacher or bilingual IC that is comfortable with academic language. ESL/Bilingual departments will continue to support your teachers with academic language to help during testing.
Student Engagement
Rapid guessing on MAP Growth can result in a student receiving a score 20 points or more lower than it would have been if the student had been fully engaged.
