DMS Newsletter (6/4/23)
🦅 Go Eagles!!! 🦅
We've almost come to the end of an amazing school year here at DMS. For some of you, it was your student's first year of middle school and you have 2 more to look forward to. For some, we say good-bye to your child as they move on to an exciting 4 years of high school. 8th graders - we are proud of your accomplishments and wish you the best in 9th grade. 6th and 7th graders - we look forward to seeing you in August for another great year. The DMS staff hope you have a great summer filled with creating memories with friends and family.
More important info:
- 8th grade parents - please note info linked HERE on end of year activities.
- Keep in mind that the schedule for this week is regular for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday - but dismissal on Thursday and Friday will be at 12:04. Thursday and Friday are also "No Backpack/Bag" days (small bag for phone, etc.. is fine). Please make sure your child does not bring one.
- Check out our new School Video linked above or HERE. We are so proud of the staff and students who did an amazing job of highlighting all that makes DMS a truly special and amazing school and community to work and learn at.
- The Odyssey of the Mind team that competed at the World Tournament in Michigan did an amazing job. They finished 22nd out of 55 total teams. We look forward to next year and hope to have more teams as part of the program.
- For those leaving USD (mainly 8th graders) please see info linked HERE for details on transferring your Google items and Chromebook return/repair items.
- Support our DMS Cheerleaders! The DMS Cheer Team will be selling candy leis for $5 at graduation 6/9. Snacks and water will be sold as well. Let's celebrate our 8th graders by giving them something sweet to wear!
ATTENTION Incoming 7th Grade Parents If you have not done so already, please submit your student's required immunizations for 7th grade. (Tdap and Varicella/Chickenpox) Our goal is to have all the Tdap/Chickenpox and other requested immunizations completed prior to the end of the 2022-2023 school year. This will ensure your child has a smooth transition into the 7th grade. Your child can not start the first day of the 2023-2024 school year until proof of all identified immunizations for the 7th grade have been received. You may scan your documents and email to sargenta@unionsd.org or fax to 408-264-9332. If you have any questions, please contact the Health Office at 408-264-1122 x 15007 (Amanda Sargent) or our District Nurse, Lisa Schirle schirlel@unionsd.org. For more information visit the California Department of Public Health, Immunization Branch

Upcoming events/important dates at DMS:
- June 5 - USD Board Meeting
- June 8 - 8th grade Dance
- June 9 - 8th grade Graduation/Last day of School
Parents - please make sure to drive safely at all times during your commute to dropping off and picking up your students. There is a lot of traffic, students walking/riding bikes all around the neighborhoods of DMS (and other Union SD schools) and it's imperative that you be as safe as possible so our students can be as well.
Is your student having a conflict with others that needs mediated? DMS has an EMT (Eagles Mediation Team) that may help. Students can complete an EMT form (was emailed to all students) and get help from fellow Eagles who have been trained in peer conflict mediation. More serious conflicts can be mediated by Ms. Brown, one of our Mental Health Therapists.
Our morning announcements can be found HERE. Information on clubs/activities can often be found in these announcements so you will want to bookmark this.
