Robert C. Howe Service to Secondary Education Award Recipients

Since 1988, MoASSP has annually presented a very special award at the Fall Conference to those individuals who have made significant contributions to secondary education. This award was renamed the Robert C. Howe Service to Secondary Education Award in 1995. Virgil Freeman and Roger Berkbuegler this year's recipients.

Advocacy In Action...Register now for Phone2Action!

MoASSP has partnered with NASSP with a new advocacy tool called Phone 2 Action. MoASSP welcomes members to become an "Advocate" by clicking on this link, provide the following information, and confirm subscription:

  • personal email (not school)
  • You will then receive a text message from 528-86 with the following message: "Reply YES to confirm your subscription to Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals alerts.

It is that simple. You do not have to send a message to your legislator to become an advocate. When we have an action item that needs support, we will be ready to act.

Southeast MoASSP & AD's Hold First Meeting of the Year

Our Southeast colleagues met this past Wednesday at the Centene Center across from Farmington HS. The agenda included MSHSAA 101, social media issues, and various updates including a MoASSP presentation by Clark and Doug. David Haug, Principal at Jefferson R-VII, provided his colleagues' information regarding their social media efforts at his school. David has graciously shared with all of us, resources to help address this issue. Thanks, David!

MoASSP Visits Hardin Middle School

The MoASSP "Show Me" Tour continued this week with a visit to Hardin Middle School. The Leadership Team is composed of Assistant Principals Dr. Earl Draper on the left and Brian Kirton on the right. Dr. Ed Gettemeier, center, is beginning his tenth year as Hardin Middle School Principal. Ed is also MoASSP President for 2018-2019. It is evident that Ed and his team are leading a healthy climate at Hardin. From "The Leader in Me" to video equipment that helps to tell their story, great things are happening in this St. Charles school.

Assessment Update

The link below was shared at the State Board meeting on Tuesday. Blaine Henningsen, Assistant Commissioner; Lisa Sireno, Standards, and Assessment Administrator, Office of College and Career Readiness will reconvene stakeholders from the educational community and revisit cut scores for math and ELA.

MSIP Update

Chris Neale, Assistant Commissioner, Office of Quality Schools, facilitated the presentation and discussion.

Upcoming Regional Meetings

Southwest MoASSP

Southwest MoASSP Regional Meeting will be September 25, 2018, at the High Street Baptist Church located at 900 North Eastgate, Springfield, MO 65802. Park in the back parking lot and enter door #2 or #3. The Principals' meeting will begin at 8:45 followed by MSHSAA 101 Session at 11:00.

South Central MoASSP

Southcentral MoASSP Regional Meeting will be September 26, 2018, at Rolla High School. Check in with the front office staff. The address is 900 Bulldog Run, Rolla, MO 645401. The Principals' meeting will begin at 11:00 followed by MSHSAA 101 Session at 11:30.
