Welcome to the Panda News!

Greeting Panda Nation!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

This Friday, November 12, is the end of Cycle 2. Please take a moment to review your child's current grades by accessing the HISD Connect Parent Portal. If you do not have a Parent Portal account set up, please visit the HISD website for directions.

We have so many great things happening at Pershing and we want to make sure we are highlighting those, including Pershing students doing things outside of school. If you would like me to highlight your student for something they are doing outside of school (i.e. Boy/Girl Scouts, church, community service, outside sports), please send me a picture and a brief description and I will post on social media and include in our newsletter.

Have a great week Pandas!

Gifted & Talented Information

HISD has extended the Gifted and Talented testing application deadline to November 11th. If you are interested in having your child tested for GT, please visit the information on our website.

GT testing will take place on Saturday, December 4 and Saturday, December 11. Students are only required to test on one of the days. Testing will begin at 8:30 am. and end around 3:30 p.m. More information will be sent out to those parents who submit an application.

School Start Time & Hall Sweeps

Parents, this is a reminder that school begins at 8:30 a.m. ALL students should be seated in class and ready to learn when the bell rings at 8:30 a.m. Please allow for extra time in the morning to have your child dropped off so that they have time to make it to class by 8:30 a.m. For your convenience, students may be dropped off as early as 7:45 a.m.

In an effort to curb tardiness, we began conducting hall sweeps last Friday, including after the 8:30 a.m. bell. All students who are caught in any hall sweep will be issued an after-school or Saturday detention. We need students to understand that being on time is a life skill that will follow them forever. Please help us by being a part of the solution and reminding your child of the importance of being on time to class.

Get Your Yearbook!

Do you ever want memories that last a lifetime? You'll be thankful to get a yearbook to cherish this special year! Remember to get your yearbook by November 12th before the price goes up! Please click here to see the flyer and order your yearbook. Also, check out our Yearbook Instagram page @smilepershingms

Wellness Wednesdays

Each Wednesday students will be participating in SEL lessons during Homeroom. The Counselors are working on putting together our first series of lessons, focusing on Peer Relationships. Over the course of four weeks, students will complete the following lessons:

  • What Makes a Friend
  • I've Got Your Back
  • Talk It Out
  • Battle the Bullies

The lessons take 40-50 minutes each and include a mini-lesson, to be delivered by the Counselors via MS TEAMS, and then an activity that teachers will facilitate.

This week's lesson is "I've Got Your Back." We encourage you to speak with your child about this lesson when they get home on Wednesday night.

Pershing UIL One-Act Play

This past weekend, Pershing hosted the UIL One-Act Play competition. Our students did an amazing job and will be advancing to the district competition. Congratulations to Ms. Adams, Ms. Mirabella, and the entire cast and crew of Antigone for a job well done!
