Dear CLA Families,

We hope everyone is enjoying the snow and is staying safe. Mr. Ryan and our custodial team have been working hard to clear all the snow to make sure our students and staff can safely enter and exit the building.


We want to thank all of our families for the flexibility and support last week while we had to switch to a virtual day for all students due to the weather. The days of a traditional snow day may be gone and virtual days are the new reality.

Picture Retakes on February 2nd

CLA will be having picture retakes on Tuesday February 2nd. This is open to ALL students, BOTH in-person and virtual. If your child is new to CLA or missed the first picture day on Nov. 11th, they can have their picture taken at this time.


In-Person Students - If you would like to have your child retake their picture, please notify your child’s classroom teacher with a note, email, or phone call. On February 2nd, your classroom teacher will bring your child to the gym to have their picture taken.



Virtual Students - If you would like to have your child’s picture taken, please call the office and schedule an appointment to bring your child in. We will have appointments from 12:00-12:45pm. Call 847-963-3400.

Valentines Day 2021

We are now into January, which means Valentine’s Day will be here before we know it! In a typical school year, this would mean we’d be working with our PTAs to plan classroom parties and activities to mark the occasion. Due to the abundance of restrictions that continue to be in place throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be able to host classroom parties this year, or exchange treats/cards with classmates. Please do not send your child with treats or cards to pass out this year. Thank you in advance.

Virtual Student Material Pick Up on Monday February 1st

Pick Up Times - 9:30-11:30 and 1:00-7:00

All Virtual students will have materials available for pick up on Monday February 1st. All materials will be located at DOOR 15 (Gym Entrance). We have made a small change to the hours for material pick up to avoid congestion in the parking lot with the buses in the morning. We have also added hours after school to help families who need to come and pick up materials after school. Please contact the office or your child’s classroom teacher if you are not able to pick up materials on Feb. 1st.

World Read Aloud Day

To celebrate World Read Aloud Day on February 3rd, the District 15 Multilingual Department will be hosting a book give away on Feb. 2nd and Feb. 6th at various locations throughout the community. See this flyer in Spanish and English for more information.

CLA's Bilingual Liaison - Ana Flores

CLA is excited to introduce another new member to our team. Ana Flores is one of District 15’s Bilingual Parent Liaisons and she will be at CLA on Mondays and Tuesdays. Ana also supports other D15 sites and works at the POC and EPNRC throughout the week. She is a great resource for families and staff. Please do not hesitate to reach out to her with any questions or help finding community resources.

Rolling Meadows Schools Food Drive

This year the PTAs at the five District 15 schools in Rolling Meadows will be participating in Food Drive from Feb.15th - Feb. 26th. Each school will be collecting food and other household essentials to be donated to one one of the local food pantries to help our local families in need. These dates were selected to align with one of the material pick dates to allow our Virtual Students and families to participate as well. If your family is able to participate, more information will be provided as we get closer to the start of the food drive.

Student Health Certification

As students return to school, parents are required to certify that their child is symptom and exposure free each day. Before you send your student to school, a parent must sign the student’s Health Certification lanyard for that day. By signing the lanyard every day you are certifying that the answers to the questions and symptoms below are all ‘no’.


  • Fever of 100.4° or higher
  • New onset of moderate to severe headache
  • Cough
  • Sore Throat
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Shortness of breath
  • Abdominal pain from unknown cause
  • New congestion/ runny nose
  • New loss of sense of taste or smell
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue from unknown cause
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Have you been told by a contact tracer that your child has been in close contact with a COVID-19 positive person in the last 14 days?


At the end of each week a new card will be placed in your child’s lanyard for the following week. Please note that the card must be dated and signed each day prior to school.


If a child comes to school and they do not have a lanyard or their lanyard is not signed, your child will be assessed by the school nurse, and a reminder note will be sent home, or phone call will be made. If the student shows any symptoms of COVID, they will be brought to the Protective Health Space and will need to be picked up from school immediately.


Additionally, if a student develops any symptoms of COVID throughout the school day (see list above), they will be brought to the Protective Health Space and will need to be picked from school immediately.


If your child was exposed to anyone who tested positive, please call our school nurse to discuss the necessary quarantine timelines.
