Student Choice and PBL
Students in Mrs. Chacon's class watched a video of Mrs. Chacon eating Girl Scout Cookies and then doing different forms of exercise to burn off the calories. Students then logged onto Google Classroom to find their challenge - if Mrs. Chacon ate all 14 boxes of various cookies, how long would she have to walk, jog, run, or stair climb? They worked in teams to do the math and apply it to the situation. Talk about engaged learners!
In 8th Grade Science with Mrs. French, students were assigned a project where they chose a topic to relate to the chapters they already learned in first semester. Students could present with a Google Slides, video, podcast, or write a children's book. Students chose topics that were important to them including pollution, vitamins, and fire safety. Two students even related espresso to states of matter, solubility, pH levels, agriculture, and more in a project called Espresso: An Engineer's Coffee! Mrs. French wants to give Vivian Bui and Katelynn Jacobs a shout out for this awesome presentation!
