The Grass Valley Week at a Glance
Family Edition: 9/23-9/27
The Instructional Core
The Instructional Core supports us in understanding the interconnectedness of the teacher, the student and the content. As a teacher prepares a lesson, they must consider how to best engage the student, in addition to how to best structure content in order that it is understandable for the learner. How are your students engaging with the content they are learning? How are teachers intentionally planning learning experiences to best support your student?

Our current focus is on complex texts. We have been vertically aligning strategies to support with assuring our students are able to access these texts during teacher learning and will continue that work this week. Be sure to ask your student about what text they are reading in class!
Assessments:
- Grades 3-5: Students 1 or more grade levels below on the SRI should be tested using F&P this week. Reach out with any needs! Results DUE in Illuminate by Sept 26.
The Grass Valley Way

We are a PBIS school. All staff/families are expected to use the Grass Valley Way with students. Be sure that you are communicating in a preventative manner, and not a reactionary one, including using an appropriate tone of voice with all students.

A bit about Ms. Beckner...
After meeting my partner, Alex, in DC, we decided to move to the Bay to be closer to his family, so we embarked upon a 3,500 mile road trip with our beagle, Bailey, and made our way westward. I continued teaching, this time in Oakland. Eventually, I moved into teacher leadership here in OUSD at Korematsu Discovery Academy in East Oakland. Recently, I went back to school (which was so much harder than I expected - kudos to our kids who do it every day!) and earned my Master's in Educational Leadership and Administrative Service Credential from UC Berkeley.
Back in January, we added to our family with a little boy, Riley, who we believe is quite perfect:) He will make an appearance at school as often as possible!
I feel so excited and honored to have the opportunity to lead as a member of the Grass Valley staff! This is such a vibrant and tight knit community and I look forward to continuing to get to know the many facets of it. As you get to know me, you will learn that I am very transparent, so please reach out with questions and communicate your needs, so that I can do everything in my control to support you in meeting the needs of the incredible young people we serve.
