A Look at Our Week
We will be continuing to learn about, and make using various materials, 2-D shapes in Math Workshop. We will also be making a class Shape Mural.
We have a new bulletin board (a gallery of pictures of your children working and playing), and our Math bulletin board is taking shape. Slowly our room is evolving into a showcase of your children's learning, and creativity.
I will be testing your children on their sight words this week, and returning a sheet of paper with words circled that still need reinforcement. Sight words learned this far are: I, it, can, see, the, we, in, at, a, like, to, and, go, on, you, my, up, is, am, said, here, me, look, come. This week's words are: make, day, his, her. Please help your child learn these words at home; Sight words are crucial to your child's progression in reading.
Last week in Fundations, we learned d-dog-/d/ and s - snake -/s/ as our letter-keyword-sounds. This week we will learn the last vowel, e - ed -/e/, and another consonant, r-rat-/r/. We continue to work on rhyming, and hearing the first sound of a word. Enjoy making rhymes with your child as you're waiting in line at the grocery store, or stuck in traffic. It keeps them out of trouble, and gives them good practice!!
In writing, we continue to write booklets. We're going to spend the week writing, adding details, and "fixing up and fancying up" our books before publishing them next week.
We will be learning a Harvest Dance this week. Your children are so musical, and I enjoy singing and dancing with them each week. I was treated to hearing them play "Pumpkin Stew" during their music lesson. Each child played a different instrument, sang and chanted together following the conductor. I was so proud of their unity, focus and talent.
In Library last week the class performed the story "The Little Old Woman Who Was Not Afraid of Anything". It was a riot! Ask your child whether they were the shoes, pants, shirt, gloves, hat, or pumpkin head!
