Blue Belles of the Week
WISD Education Foundation Athlete of the Week
Anna is a senior at Weatherford High School and has been playing basketball since she was in the 2nd grade. This is her fourth year as a member of the Lady Roos varsity basketball team where she’s been a starter since her sophomore year. Anna was selected to the All-Tournament basketball team in November 2016 and last year led the Lady Roos in steals. In 2016, she was named the Defensive Player of the Year and in 2017 she received the same honor at the District level. She excels on and off the court and was named to the All-Academic team in her sophomore and junior year.
Anna is very friendly and a natural student leader. Last year she was the WHS Kangaroo mascot. She’s a member of the WISD Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, PALS, Roo Crew, Rally Girls at Pep Rallies, and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. She emceed the senior talent show last year and was selected to serve as an usher at the 2017 Weatherford High School graduation ceremony.
Congratulations to Anna Jefferson-Polk!
The first week's Student Athlete of the Week is Carissa Barnes.
Carissa is a Weatherford High School junior and has been a varsity starter for the Lady Roos varsity volleyball team since her freshman year, playing 6 rotation outside hitter and occasionally in the libero position. Over the years, she has received several honors such as All-Tournament Team, District Second Team, District Honorable Mention, and Co-Hitter of the year.
Carissa began playing volleyball with Weatherford ISD’s Community Education youth sports program when she was in the second grade. She also plays at the club level play at Club Texas where she and her teams have qualified for the USAV Girls Junior National Championships for the last 4 years. She has verbally committed to play volleyball and pursue her college education at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, where she plans to major in Kinesiology and Athletic Training.
In school, she works hard to maintain an A/B honor roll status in AP core classes while exploring other interests such as Spanish, Sports Medicine, and this year, Culinary and Health Science Technology.
