WELCOME STAFF
The staff has been working diligently (and kayaking) to prepare for our 535 students. We have 27 new hires! This is amazing considering that half the country's teaching force has left this year. Thank you for choosing us.
Families- Check out our website links to learn about each staff member.
WELCOME STUDENTS
We are buggy to see you! Don't worry- this is a fake bug. We've missed your smiling faces. Start getting to bed early, so you're ready for learning.
Remember to come to Meet-the-Teacher on Tuesday morning so that you can visit your classrooms and meet your teachers. Bring your parents and guardians with you.
THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS
A huge thank you to the Military Affairs Committee (MAC) members and their families, who helped us prepare the campus for students. Our maintenance team is currently depleted, and we could not have looked this good without you.
The MAC is a dedicated partner to SCS and funds many programs and activities for our students.
Principal's Note
Sailfish families,
We are ready to hand off your precious ones for the start of school. Notice our FIRST DAY is WEDNESDAY. Be sure your child is not on campus before 7:45 AM. We will dismiss at 2:00 PM on the first day. Our routine dismissal (3:00 PM) will commence on Thursday. The early-out and Wednesday enrichment programs will start next week.
Please drive slowly and carefully on base. Our school is in the middle of a neighborhood filled with children. The speed limit on the roads directly surrounding the school is 15 mph. In addition, all facilities, including the gas station, are reserved for active duty and retired military personnel. Be sure to respect our neighbors and our service members.
There will be much more traffic on the first days of school. Be patient. It does get better.
If you are walking your child to the classroom, please park in the two parking lots. Parents cannot exit their vehicles when in a car line. Give your child a quick hug, kiss, fist bump, and encouraging word before leaving campus. Adults are not permitted inside the classrooms.
Remember: K-2 students get dropped off at the front of the school (Felton Road). Students in grades 3-8 (who do not have younger school-aged children) get dropped off in the back. No exceptions, please.
Thank you for sharing your children with us,
Principal Jannes

ALL FAMILIES PLEASE complete the Application for Free and Reduced-Price meals. Even if you do not plan on purchasing school meals, your eligibility status may help Sigsbee get other types of funding. Military-connected families living on base are able to exclude BAH from total household income. Families who successfully submit and application will receive an hour of volunteer credit, regardless of the outcome.
Please email stephanie.bartley@sigsbee.org for questions about filling out the application.
Click on the bubble picture or title above to enroll for Wednesday enrichment. The first class will take place on August 17th. The enrollment period is August 6th-12th, closing at noon. Instructions are on the form.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
We take pride in providing all initial school supplies for students at no cost to parents. We know how stressful it can be to find the correct folder or brand of glue stick on a small island. Required supplies are on our grade level websites. Click on any teacher in the grade level to see the items.
GENERALLY, ALL STUDENTS NEED:
a backpack (must fit in cubby or locker)
a filled reusable water bottle
a lunch box (if bringing lunch or snack)
earbuds or headphones
water shoes (not right away)
combination lock (middle school)
uniform shirts (middle school- see below)
Please make sure all items are labeled with the child's first and last name.
In addition, the websites contain lists of items that parents may donate. We appreciate your generosity.
MEET-THE-TEACHER TUESDAY, AUGUST 9th
We look forward to seeing you at Meet-The-Teacher on Tuesday, August 9th, from 8:30-10:00 AM. Meet the Teacher is designed to have children and parents greet their teachers and take care of any paperwork. Please remember to keep your children with you.
To expedite your visit, we will send an electronic campus map with room assignments, so you can navigate your way around campus. Staff will guide you on that day. Kindergarten through fifth-grade students will receive a welcome email message from your child’s homeroom teacher, so you know what class they are assigned. We are careful about how we place students and do not take requests for specific teachers.
Students in grades 3-8 can see their schedules in FOCUS. If you do not have a Focus account set up and need assistance, please email Mrs. Rosch (leslie.rosch@sigsbee.org)
During Meet-the-Teacher, the expectation is that you will spend a few moments with your child’s teachers and then proceed to the library or office for any other needed items. Formal presentations from the teachers will take place during Back to School Night in September.
GENERAL AREAS
Some of you have taken care of the pre-opening paperwork and will not need to stop by the general areas.
General areas will house:
Base passes & Yearbooks (Library) If you still need a base pass and have not provided a copy of your license, please drop by the library FIRST, before visiting the classroom. If you emailed your license earlier in the summer, your base pass would be ready in your child's homeroom class.
If you did not pre-order last year’s yearbook and want to purchase a copy, you may do so in the library/media center. Each yearbook is $25 while supplies last.
Help with finding homerooms (Front circle, back flag pole, G wing doors, and outside portables)
Our special area teachers will be available outside to help you identify your child’s homeroom teacher and provide you with a printed map if you need help. You will not need their assistance if you can open your email on your phone.
Important health or registration documents (Office)
Registration forms, medications, and physical forms can be dropped off at the main office. Please visit the main office if you need to speak to the Enrollment Specialist (Mrs. Rosch) or the Nurse (Ms. Wall).
Please check the grade level websites for important information if you cannot visit during this event. The staff is not available after 10:30 AM as they are preparing for students.
NEW FAMILY ORIENTATION: this will occur in the cafeteria after families visit the classrooms. The school principal, Principal Jannes, will be available outside the office to answer any questions and familiarize you with our Sigsbee routines during Meet the Teacher.
MIDDLE SCHOOL UNFORMS
Middle school uniform shirts can be purchased at:
Ramona’s Conch Creations
3255 Flagler Avenue #301 Key West.
(Across the street from Dion's).
Hours: Monday through Friday 10:00 AM-5:30 PM
This is a new location.
Ramona's is unable to screenprint elementary student shirts at this time. There is no required uniform for grades K-5.
Below is the updated price list at Ramona's:
unisex short-sleeve t-shirt is $9
unisex long-sleeve t-shirt is $12
unisex short-sleeve drifit is $13
unisex long-sleeve drifit is $17
school jacket is $25
Ramonas will no longer apply a logo to students' pre-owned clothing or take special orders for uniform shirts and jackets. While they are limiting new purchases to certain colors, all previously purchased SCS shirts are still allowed.
Remember: Black is reserved for the eighth grade.
Base Passes
If you already have gate access with an active duty military ID, DOD, or dependent ID card, you do NOT need a Sigsbee pass. However, as stated in our base access policy, all other individuals wanting to access the school need a base pass for each person who will drop off, pick up students or attend school events.
Save yourself the wait at Meet-the-Teacher by emailing Mrs. Roberts, our school secretary, with a copy of your driver's license (lynn.roberts@sigsbee.org). This will enable us to create passes before Meet the Teacher and have them ready for pickup IN THE CLASSROOM.
If you are not present at Meet-the-Teacher but sent your information into the office, your base pass will be sent home with your child after the first day of school.
You will be able to access the school during the first week without your pass in order to have time to acquire it.
CONGRATULATIONS TO KELLAN DOLAN
Congratulations to Sigsbee Sailfish, Kellan Dolan! Kellan's artwork is featured on the cover of the Keys-wide school calendar this year. Kellan's cover illustration is the masterpiece that received the most votes in the annual calendar contest.
