We Are Not From Here by Jenny Torres Sanchez
We Are Not From Here by Jenny Torres Sanchez “Crossing from Guatemala through Mexico with their eyes on the U.S. border, they follow the route of La Bestia, a system of trains that promise the hope of freedom--if they are lucky enough to survive the harrowing journey. With nothing but the bags on their backs and the desperation that courses through their very veins...they know that there's no turning back, dangerous though the road ahead might be. In this story inspired by real--and current--events, the plight at our southern border is brought to life.’ GoodReads

College Application Information
College application season is in full swing. Here are some important tips to keep in mind so that everything goes smoothly getting your application materials submitted on time. As always, if you have a question, reach out to your counselor to get some help.
Keep your application list up to date in Naviance
The Common App doesn’t change your targeted deadlines in Naviance.
We use the deadline students enter in Naviance to meet deadlines for students, please make sure you change your deadlines so they accurately reflect the deadlines you are targeting.
Letters of Recommendation
Give your recommender a minimum of two weeks notice to write your letter.
Keep in mind that counselors and teachers are prioritizing letters by deadline and by order received.
For example: If you ask for a November 15th letter on November 13th, it might not be able to be written, as there could be other letters requested previously still in process.
Teacher recommendations need to be added in Naviance for the teacher to send them via Naviance to your school.
Do not request a counselor letter via the teacher recommendation screen on Naviance. If you need a letter from your counselor, contact your counselor directly.
Transcripts
Request your transcripts in Naviance well in advance of your deadline
There are often supplementary materials and reports that need to accompany your transcript that we need time to compile and complete before sending.
For students using the Common App: you must add the college to your Common App list and link your Common App account with Naviance in order for records to be sent for Common App schools through Naviance.
Non-Common App school records can also be sent electronically. Request those records through Naviance.
January 1 Deadlines
Students targeting the January 1 deadline, must submit transcript requests by Monday, December 13, 2021. Counselors are not in the office over the holiday, and we return AFTER this important deadline.
Mid-Year Reports
Some universities require applicants to submit a mid-year report reflecting first semester grades and schedule updates as applicable.
Students can request mid-year transcripts through Naviance anytime. Once mid year grades are posted, the registrar and counselors can send this information to the schools in question.
Not sure if your school requires a mid-year report? Look at the office of admissions web page for your schools to learn more.

School always presents certain challenges for students who learn and think differently (kids with ADHD, dyslexia, giftedness, autism, anxiety, or other neuro-differences). But the COVID-19 pandemic has created even greater obstacles. Debbie shares ideas on how parents can best prioritize and plan in the pandemic-era school landscape. She also offers advice on how to support differently wired children’s cognitive, social, and emotional needs during this atypical time, while also taking care of one’s own emotional health and well-being.
