NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, SEPT 6TH IN HONOR OF LABOR DAY
Dear Prairie Families,
Thank you to our students and families who attended Back-to-School Night last week! It was great to see so many families and to have the opportunity to tell you about our expectations and procedures. Many families completed the Data Confirmation process and/or signed up for PTA Membership. All families MUST complete data confirmation. We will send home more PTA Membership forms this week. If you would like to become a member, return the form with cash or check. We are working on electing a PTA board. Once we have a PTA board, we will have another puma t-shirt sale.
Temperatures are predicted to be near 110 degrees this week. If we reach 105 degrees, we will call for an Inclement Weather Schedule where students will not go outside for recess and PE. Students should bring a water bottle to school. We will provide students with water breaks and limit student time on the blacktop and in the direct sun.
Each classroom in 4th through 6th grade is currently selecting one student representative for Student Council. 6th grade representatives will give speeches at an assembly on 9/13 to run for President or Vice President. 5th and 6th grade reps can then run for Treasurer and Secretary. We will announce our Student Council members soon!
Music will begin this week for 4th-6th grade.
We are still in need of 2 crossing guards before and after school. Please call the front office if your are interested.
Sincerely,
Kelly Schevenin, Principal & Connie Price, Vice Principal

6th Grade Science Camp COMING SOON
Our 6th Grade students will be attending a 4-day residential environmental education program at Exploring New Horizons Outdoor Schools at Sempervirens in Scotts Valley, November 1-4, 2022.
Naturalists lead students in hands-on, place-based learning, concentrating on interdependence, cycles, energy flow, natural history, and more, deepening students’ ecological knowledge and interest in science and environmental stewardship. School groups also engage in cooperative team building activities, including family style dining, designed to build trust within and between the hiking groups and participating classes or schools. Learnings are reinforced through reflective nature journaling; drawing or nature art; participatory group songs, dances, and skits where cabin groups act out a concept they have learned during the week. Conservation is also an essential part of the experience, as students weigh and graph their food waste at the end of each meal, try to take a 3-minute shower, and participate in a mock town hall meeting.
6th Grade teachers will be sharing more information this week at Back-to-School Night.
