Girls on the Run 5K
Girls on the Run inspires girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through our research-based curricula which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event. http://www.gotrdfw.org/Our-Programs

AVID Elementary Foundations
The AVID Culturally Relevant Teaching: A Schoolwide Approachresource is designed to assist educators in developing and integrating culturally relevant teaching practices that create supportive, safe, and respectful academic environments for all students. The resources within this book provide educators with pedagogy and high-engagement strategies that are appropriate across grade levels and content areas.
Chapter 1: Transforming Educators - Building Relational Capacity
The Building Relational Capacity unit focuses on opportunities for educators to reflect on their relationships with students and their classroom environment, while developing strategies to build relational capacity with and among students. Included within the activities are icebreakers, energizers, and community builders. Each of these plays a role in building relational capacity within the classroom.
Another component in building relational capacity is providing students with a safe place to learn. Resources for personal reflection and staff development are provided to aid educators in building an environment that creates a safe learning community for all students.
Using these resources, educators will be able to:
- Develop authentic relationships with students that are founded on trust and care
- Recognize the diversity of each learner and what they bring to the classroom
- Create an environment that establishes a safe learning community

Mayor's Race
Thelma Richardson is participating in the Mayor's Race for the second year!! If you have not gotten your application to join us, see Coach Juarez.
The Oncor Mayor’s Race 5K will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the base of Reunion Tower in Dallas. This 5K run (3.1 mile) event is for serious runners looking for a good race or casual athletes looking for an interesting walking tour of downtown Dallas. Kids who would find a 5K too much of a challenge can participate in the 1 Mile Fun Run. The Oncor Mayor’s Race 5K, launched in 2003 as a way to encourage school kids to become more physically active, has blossomed into an ideal warm-up event for marathon participants and their families.
Plans are in the works for a group after-trip to Chocktaw Casinos. Once we are done with the race, we can all carpool out to Durant, Oklahoma and enjoy the rest of the day and possibly come home with a little more money!!
