Core Classroom Updates
ELA and Core Writing with Ms. Behrens
In ELA 7 classes this week, students completed a textbook scavenger hunt to become more acquainted with their Collections textbooks. Students also visited the Library Media Center and were able to check out reading books. We also took our Collections beginning of the year pretest and began Collection 1: Bold Actions. Next week, we will begin by reading and studying our first selection "Rogue Wave" by Theodore Taylor.
In Core Writing class this week, students finished decorating their Writer's Notebook. This will be an interactive notebook in which we will collect notes and anchor charts that assist us in using writing techniques. We also began our first writing assignment called a 'biopoem'. It is a template poem that outlines interests and details of students' lives. We will go through the writing process as we develop the poem and produce a final draft using their chromebooks.
ELA with Ms. Paradies
This week we have been establishing our routines and learning more about one another. Students shared their virtual lockers in class, giving us some insight into who they are. Then, we explored our textbooks with the help of a Textbook Scavenger Hunt. We also made our first visit to the LMC (Library Media Center). We will visit the LMC every other week.
On Thursday, we took our BOY (Beginning of the Year) assessment associated with our textbook. Finally, on Friday, we set up our Reading Notebooks and began exploring Collection 1 in our textbook. Next week we will begin our reading selections with a great short story entitled
“Rogue Wave”.

Magic of Electrons
Magic of Electrons built citrus batteries in class this week. We are learning about static and current electricity. Please remind students to come to class prepared with a charged Chromebook and a pencil. This has been a struggle for many students and it is impeding their success. Due to the size of the class, we cannot transition between the computers I have and the workshop, so students need to be prepared with these items daily.
