The Making of a Time Capsule
While we wait for our "official" Remote Learning days, why not study about and create a time capsule? What is a time capsule, anyway? it is a container that is filled with things from the present time and that is meant to be opened by people at some time in the future.
A Spirit of '76 time capsule was compiled and placed in the ground on the courthouse lawn on July 4, 1976 in celebration of the Bicentennial of the American Revolution. The time capsule is to be opened July 4, 2026. It was placed by the Liberty Lions Club.
Watch my video instruction below about Union County's own Spirit of '76 time capsule. After that, you will connect what you learned to making one of your very own that documents the COVID-19 virus as it applies to our own lives. REMEMBER...you re making history right now. As you think about your time capsule, always keep in mind that this is a long-term project which should be worked on over the course of several days.
This fun project helps us to address the following Indiana Academic Standards in the area of Social Studies:
- "Identify continuity and change between past and present community life using primary sources"
- "Read about and summarize historical community events using a variety of resources (the library, digital media, print media, electronic media, and community resources)."
