A note from our administrators
Dear Chapman's Retreat Families,
The time is near - this is our Back To School edition of the CRES Newsletter - now known as the Cheetah Chatter! This week's edition is jam-packed with information about events happening over the next two weeks and beyond, so please take time to read it in its entirety. The answers to most of your questions can be found here.
Here are some of the great things that have been going on since our last newsletter:
- Our kindergarten teachers, support staff and PTO worked hard this week to make our Kindergarten Sneak-a-Peek a huge success. If you are a kindergarten family - thank you so much for coming out - we hope that your little ones are as excited as we are to start the year.
- Thanks to our Art Teacher, Ms. Braswell, we have a new mural in the hallway by the gym - be sure to check it out at the Cheetah Social.
- Teachers have been in their rooms working to make the first day (and every day) an amazing experience for your kiddos. The classrooms are looking great!
- PTO and staff have begun gearing up for our Cheetah Social on Wednesday, August 4.
- Teachers have continued Professional Development and team planning to ensure that your children get the very best educational experience possible.
- The PTO has planned our first Spirit Night - Keep reading for details :)
We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

Health & Wellness
Health and Wellness
As you all are aware, our district communicated the Health and Wellness Guidelines for the Fall of 2021 last week. I have attached the link to these Health and Wellness Guidelines for your reference. I want our families to know that the Health and Safety of our students and staff will continue to be my number one priority as an administrative team. We ask that you do not send your child to school for any reason if he or she is sick. The best way for the Chapman's Retreat community to stay healthy is to ensure that we are strictly following our WCS Illness Guidelines. Any student that appears to be unwell will be sent immediately to Nurse Shantyl for examination. Students who are in the clinic will be asked to wear a mask (which will be provided upon arrival) Teachers will be sensitive to the varying health needs of our families at CRES and will fully support families requesting face covering for their children. Lastly, WCS will continue to monitor the impact of COVID-19 in our community and will constantly review the data to see if any adjustments to protocols and guidelines are warranted during the school year.

Health and Wellness Protocol Specific to Chapman's Retreat
If a student appears unwell, he or she will be sent immediately to Nurse Shantyl for examination. For the continued wellness of all staff and students, students entering the clinic will be asked to wear a mask, which will be provided. Nurse Shantyl will be strict on illness guidelines connected to communicable diseases.
The following mitigation strategies will continue at Chapman's Retreat:
1. Hand Sanitizing when students enter the building
2. Hand Sanitizing when students go to and from Specials and recess
3. Deep sanitization of lunch tables and stools between classes at lunch
4. Limited shared supplies (it is recommended that use their own pencils, paper, markers etc.)
What to expect on the first day of school
We are so excited to welcome our 1st-5th grade students back to school on August 6. Here are a couple of reminders:
- August 6 is a 1/2 day for students. Car Riders dismissal will begin at 12:20.
- Parents are welcome to walk their child into school on the first day. Masks are recommended for visitors, but not required.
- You are invited to bring your school supplies to the classrooms during the Cheetah Social, but if you aren't able, please bring them with you on the first day of school.
- We will have parent Sign-in tables in the front of the building beginning at 8:00- You will be asked to present your ID, sign in and will be given a visitor sticker.
- After signing in, parents and students may wait by the playground at the front of the building until doors open. Students may not be left unattended, as we will have a limited staff and are unable to monitor your children.
- We will open our doors at 8:20 and ask that parents exit the building by 8:45 so we can begin our instructional day.
- Please do not prop open any doors. All visitors must enter through the front doors only.
- Breakfast and lunch will not be served on the first day of school. Please send a snack for your child.
- Please do not park in the car rider or bus lanes - these will be in use and must not be blocked.
Who will my child's teacher be???
Teachers will be sending post cards to welcome their students and invite them to the Cheetah Social - those post cards will go out on Monday, August 2. Additionally, parents will be able to access their child's schedule in Skyward. Students will also get the chance to meet their teachers at the Cheetah Social on Wednesday, August 4. Be sure to look for your grade level tent along the walkers' path.

For more information see the attached FAQ sheet or click the following link: https://www.wcs.edu/domain/1177

Car Rider Reminders
The Secluded Lane entrance to Chapman’s Retreat will be closed to traffic during drop off and dismissal times.
If your child will be a car rider, you will need to take Ferguson Road and proceed to the front of the school for drop-off and pick-up.
The bus loop located in the back of the building is reserved for school buses only.
Pick-up in the afternoon will require that the adult present the CRES Car Rider Tag with your child's name. Car Tags can be picked at the Cheetah Social on August 4.
Please remain in your car for arrival and dismissal. If you need to enter the building, you must park in the parking lot.
Stopfinder
Looking for more Bus Stop Details? Download the StopFinder Bus App today!
Parents are now able to track the bus and create push notification alert zones. Families new to the district and whose children are assigned to both general education and special needs bus stops, will receive an activation email prior to the start of school. Parents activate the subscription, download the free app, and sign in to view the bus schedule. They can share the subscription with other parents and/or caregivers.
Selecting the child’s name takes them to the map where they can see the bus route and create alert zones. We recommend placing the zone away from the bus stop for good notification of when the bus is on the way. Please see the Stopfinder Parent Guide on the Bus Routes and School Zones page https://www.wcs.edu/domain/1157
School Supply Lists
