A Communication Tool for the Seven Hills Staff
It's the Last Week of the Grading Period...
The ideas generated are outlined below.
How Can We Motivate Students to Give 100% This Week to their Wildly Important Goals?
- Use Habit Huddle to do a whole class check on progress with tracking progress on lead measures. Are you keeping up with your lead measure scoreboard? This would be a GREAT opportunity to review the importance of Lead Measures to reaching goals, and use your own scoreboard to model.
- Stop Lead Time 3-5 minutes early each day this week and have students stop and reflect, "Did I use my time to complete a Lead Measure today?"
- Use one of the Leader in Me online resources for teaching the WIG process to review in Habit Huddle.
- Connect the habit focus for the week, Habit 1: Be Proactive, to generate ideas about how students can apply Habit 1 to their work to achieve their academic WIGs by the end of the week.
- Take students to look at the public scoreboard. Talk about what this is and how their growth will be shown on the board.
How Do We Know if Students Met Their WIG?
- K-5 students with a text level growth WIG (for example, Move from a text level 1 to a 3 by the end of the grading period.) can use LLI or Guided Reading leveled texts to complete a running record for an accurate and current text level. Depending on the student and the level of text, you will want to make sure you are completing a comprehension check as well.
- Students complete a reader's response, math justification, or science CER and it is assessed with the rubric.
- Use same DRA text as BOY and reassess ONLY using the component from the WIG...looking for growth...comparing apples to apples. (4th grade had this idea if you want more information on their thinking)
- For management of this, you might consider what meaningful work students can be engaged in to complete these assessments. For example, virtual lessons in 3-5 in Google Classroom.
What is Your Plan For Celebrating Individual Student Success and Class Success?
- Confetti and cheers for individual students. (I LOVED celebrating with confetti and mini party hats on Friday! I will be buying more tiny party hats this weekend. Don't forget to let us help celebrate individual students)
- Celebration phone call to parents from the classroom
- Tweet a Celebration
- Class conga line
- Class dance party to the class's favorite song
- Mark WIG as MET and move to celebrations in Leadership Notebook

Questions to Consider in Grade Level Teams and Share Feedback With All in the Virtual Document:
- How will we use the valuable lessons learned when setting academic WIGs for the 2nd grading period to be more efficient and effective in setting academic WIGs for the 3rd grading period? Some of the ideas discussed included how to use Habit Huddle and Lead Time, as well as whether or not it is necessary to rewrite the entire WIG if only the from x to y is changing...maybe we could use labels to add to the top?
- How will you support students in selecting work to display on celebration boards?
- What is your plan for celebrating success on public scoreboards? How will you use this as a tool to motivate students?
Lead Time:
Lead Time is imperative this week!
We have defined our campus and grade level Wildly Important Goals, and all students should have WIGs. We have 2 weeks to be working on lead measures before the end of the grading period. Remember that as a campus we agreed to provide time for students to work on lead measures during lead time 3-4 times per week. Each classroom should be monitoring progress on their classroom lead time scoreboard. I wanted to provide a gentle reminder about what we all agreed to with respect to lead time. 4Dx Book Study:
The Math Whirlwind:
You can check out the magazine in the library from Q! If you would like the consumables referenced Shaunda Garrison will be adding those to grade level Moodle pages.
Let Hayley know how she can support your use and implementation of this resource! https://docs.google.com/a/nisdtx.org/document/d/1oU2MrBriT2EaBEOXQ0IRevDj1ENj79wI4JAplpMB--0/edit?usp=sharing
Staff Meeting Prep Work:
Be aware that Dr. Warren will be visiting our meeting. Similar to his staff meeting visits last year, he wants to take time to share the state of the district, update everyone on his goals for the year, and provide an opportunity for you to ask questions or provide feedback.
Bring the reflections you completed in our last meeting. The reflections were written on a piece of white folded paper. If you lost this paper or were not in attendance at the last meeting, the questions that you need to reflect on before coming to the meeting are:
What would our school look like and feel like if everyone were inspired by the same core set of beliefs (think about our campus beliefs)? What if everyone was on the same path to those beliefs and the Wildly Important?
What if everyone on your team had a common purpose?
What matters to you most about our school?
What do you want MOST for your students?
What do you want most for your team?
Could you make decisions and solve problems based on what matters most to you?
What will it take to make what you want MOST a REALITY?

Campus and District Announcements and Updates:
- Reading teachers, don’t forget to update student TL’s for October in the Student Accountability Documents. If a new student has enrolled, please add them alphabetically by last name.
Grade Level CBA and Edugence Reminder:
Teachers are responsible for printing and scanning their own scantrons for CBA’s. There are detailed picture directions in the Edugence google folder that was shared with you via email. For your convenience the process of how to scan your scantrons is to the left of the front copier on the side table and taped on the copier in the work room. Here is the link to the Edugence folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B62k3F7h3BzjWDUtdmdGSHF0TjA?usp=sharing
Please be mindful of the date to scan into Edugence. Those are shared in the Moodle forum messages and I always try to forward those to make sure no communication is missed. When you scan it does take a few hours if not overnight for you data to show in Edugence. Follow the directions in the Edugence folder labeled Accessing Student Data. Please let me know if you have any questions! :)
Classroom teachers (LHT member or other designated team member) please remember to let specials team (Art, Music, PE and Counselor, Library) know when you will be gone on a field trip! That way they can plan accordingly to ensure they have delivered the instruction they need to to your kiddos. Thanks so much for your help with this!
