From the Library's Circulation Desk.................................
Library News: The beginning of the year is a good opportunity for setting goals. Encourage your student to set a reading goal and track it in Beanstack. Reading at least 20 minutes a day has been correlated with higher test scores and academic success. Students log in to their Beanstack accounts through Clever.
All CCPS students have a Charles County Public Library virtual library card (unless otherwise opted out). They can use these at any Charles County Public Library both in person and virtual. They access it with their student I.D. number.
Tech Reminder: Please have your student report any tech issues promptly to their teacher or the library. This includes missing chargers or misplaced laptops. Missing laptops can be checked on so long as they have battery life.
A word from your PTSO...........
Upcoming PTSO meeting on Tuesday, January 16th @ 6:30 pm
Seahawks Community,
Please mark your calendars and plan to attend the January 16th PTSO meeting. This month, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office will be bringing the H.O.P.E. Trailer (Heroin Overdose Prevention Effort) to our school’s parking lot in order to educate our community’s parents on the warning signs of potential teen drug usage. Inside the trailer is a simulated bathroom, closet and bedroom to show parents what an addict’s room might look like. The goal behind this education and the trailer usage is to decrease the time between when a drug problem starts with a teen and when it is discovered. The earlier an issue with drugs is identified, the earlier interventions can be started and potential overdoses avoided.
For 2023, there were 24 suspected fatal overdoses in Charles County. Let’s work together to ensure that none of our children are ever a part of those statistics. Please feel free to extend an invitation to any parents you know from any of our feeder elementary schools as well. This is knowledge and education that all parents can benefit from.
The meeting starts at 6:30pm in the school's cafeteria. We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, January 16th.
Thank you,
PTSO Executive Officers
