Congratulations, you and your student have made it to 2nd semester! This is a time to reflect on what you and your students have been doing during the first half of the year to school effectively with CVCS. If your routine has been working, fantastic! But, if you see areas that could be a enhanced, take this as an opportunity for a fresh start and put your best foot forward for 2nd semester. Cardinal Spotlight

Thank you to the Learning Coaches who were present for the Cardinal Spotlight this week. Mr. Toman spoke of a variety of events happening during the next few months. Those are all listed below in the Learning Coach Update for those of you who were unable to attend. During the Cardinal Spotlight, Learning Coaches were asked to provide feedback about this event. This is a new opportunity that the CVCS Administration staff has been offering during the 2015-2016 school year. As a team we are always striving to create offerings that benefit students and Learning Coaches at CVCS. If you would like an opportunity to give your input on the on the aspects of the Cardinal Spotlight, please see Ms. Tucker next week for a survey.


No School-FRIDAY, Feb. 12-President's Day Observed

CVCS will have NO SCHOOL on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016 to be observe President's Day. School will be in session on Monday, Feb. 15th.


K8 Semester Awards Assembly

Join the CVCS staff to recognize our wonderful students and their accomplishments in the first semester. The Awards Assembly will take place in Gottlieb Hall on Friday, February 19th at 10 AM.


Title 1 Workshop-Cyber Safety Consulting NEW DATE and TIME-Friday, Feb. 19th at 9 AM

Back by popular demand, CVCS is bringing back Liz Repking from Cyber Safety Consulting to present our February Title 1 workshop for Learning Coaches. The workshop will take place on Friday, Feb. 19th at 9 am (just before the Awards Assembly) in Gottlieb Hall.


PARCC Assessment

PARCC is the Illinois State Assessment given to students enrolled in public and charter schools.


Who: ALL 3RD TO 8TH GRADE STUDENTS AND STUDENTS IN HS ALGEBRA AND HS LAC 1

When: March 28th to April 8th

Where: At CVCS

Time: Three consecutive days

4th, 6th, 8th grades: March 28th, March 29th, and March 30th

3rd, 5th, 7th grades: March 31st, April 4th, and April 5th

High School: April 4th, April 5th, April 6th


Morning Session: Students arrive 8 AM, dismissal NOON

Afternoon Session: Students arrive NOON, dismissal 4 PM


*More information about the testing week and tips to prepare for the test will be communicated as testing nears. Ms. Tucker will host the March Cardinal Spotlight with more information on how to prepare for the PARCC Assessment.


My Voice, My School Student Survey (4th-12th grade)

Dear Parent or Guardian,

We are writing to let you know about a survey your child will be asked to participate in this winter, called My Voice, My School. This survey is administered by UChicago Impact for the Chicago Public Schools (CPS). The survey asks students about their experiences and feelings, such as support from their teachers, how safe they feel at school, their school work, and plans for the future. Having such information directly from students is critical for developing plans to improve schools. All students’ answers will be kept in strict confidence. No students will be identified in reports relating to this survey.
