Hello Merryman Families,

As we move into the second month of school we continue to assess students, set their academic and behavior goals for the year, and focus on their individual needs. In early October students will do the Fountas and Pinnell reading assessment, STAR universal screener for Literacy and Math, and a Literacy screening (PALS) at grades one and two. Students will get these academic results immediately, and begin setting goals to work on for the next couple of months. We review the data frequently and encourage you to talk with your child and teachers to know and understand their developmental growth.

Our PTO is hosting the annual Pumpkin and Pancake Walk n Roll on Saturday, October 14th from 8:00-11:00. We hope to see you all at school for the family fun. On Wednesday, October 18th our first and second grade students will be heading over to UW-Marinette to see Seussical Jr. courtesy of the PTO.

Thank you for dropping your child off at school by 7:55am. Remember that breakfast starts at 7:40am. Students who eat breakfast can come into school at that time. Students being dropped off after 7:55am must enter at the front doors. School starts at 8:00am daily and ends at 3:00pm.

Coming up on Wednesday, October 4 is the National Walk to School Day. Please check out the information in the newsletter! We will be walking from Peter Piper, Twin City Baptist Church, and from the corner of 6th and Carney.

We are still looking for adult volunteers! Please fill out an online application today and make a difference in the life of a child. Your support is appreciated!

Every STAR deserves the chance to SHINE!

1st Grade Super-Stars!

First grade is adding and subtracting numbers within 10. The students are using a variety of manipulatives to help them learn about partners and math mountains.

2nd Grade Super-Stars!

2nd graders read the book, "The Kindness Quilt" and then painted kindness rocks. They were then encouraged to go out over the weekend with their family & hide them for Tri-City Rocks.

3rd Grade Super-Stars!

Third graders have been working hard on their writing. They love the opportunity to spread out and really concentrate on their stories. Retelling old memories of when they were little would help them generate more ideas for things to write about.

4th Grade Super-Stars!

The school year is underway and our students are getting adjusted to the 4th grade way of life. We have been busy establishing our daily routines for Math, Writer’s Workshop, Reading Workshop, Science, and Social Studies. The students are very excited and are loving writing daily during Writer’s Workshop. On September 15th, we celebrated National Dot Day. We challenged the students to “make their mark” on the world. Please be sure that you are checking and signing your child’s planner every night.

Please join children and adults around the world in celebrating International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 4, 2017. International Walk to School Day is an annual event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking to school on the same day. It promotes walking for several reasons:

  • Physical activity

  • Teaching safe pedestrian skills to children

  • Awareness of how walkable a community is

  • Concern for the environment

  • Reducing traffic congestion, pollution, and speed near schools

  • Sharing time with community leaders, parents and children

A special Walk to School Day event is being planned at your child’s school. Community partners will be around the school to make sure kids have a fun and safe walk to school. .

Children are encouraged to walk to school on October 4th and parents/guardians are also welcome to walk along.
