Target in Project?...Rainforest leading us to Standards
Since we planted bean seeds, we have discussed further things that grow. We have begun building some background knowledge about the Rainforest. We have looked at some maps that show where Rainforests grow. We started discussion by creating a KWL chart. The "K" tells what we "Know." The "W" is what we "Want" to know. The "L" is what we have "Learned." We began talking about what we know and started some thoughtful questions about what we want to know. Next week, we will dig into texts about the rainforest to scaffold more thinking questions. (Psst! I did a little recon on my trip, visiting the Denver Botanical Garden.)
Target in C1?...Baseline of Standards
As part of the Academic Year, we are administering Readiness Assessments for all of our younger learners to help identify what they already know and monitor what they are learning. (Upper Communities will complete this using Scantron Assessments) This will help us to identify your child's areas of strengths and weaknesses as well as show their growth by administering this assessment at the beginning of the year, middle of the year, and end of the year. We will be sharing the first assessment, which will be our baseline results, with parents through Freshgrade. However, I will be walking my parents through this assessment when we meet on Parent Conference day in October.
Target in Centers?...Purposeful practice of Standards
We will be having class discussions about each centers. We began this week talking about Math Manipulatives. Why do we have this center? What can we learn? How can we use the materials to learn reading and math. Here's some ideas...
