Congratulations, Lincoln Richardson!
Feeding the Reading Appetite!
By simply designing a book cover, Clear Creek students had the opportunity to win a classroom party and a $500 donation for our school library!
Each participating student had to complete a Price Chopper Bag Your Favorite Book entry form and return it to their classroom teacher no later than October 16th. All artwork needed to be an original, unique creation of the entrant and was judged on creativity and content. One winner was then chosen among all entries received for each grade level, kindergarten through 8th grade.
After reviewing right at 9,500 entries, Price Chopper named a lucky CCE student a winner in the 1st grade category! J Lincoln Richardson from Mrs. Garretson’s 1st grade class was honored at our all-school assembly on Thursday, December 17th. Representatives from Price Chopper, along with the “Price Chompers” themselves, presented Lincoln with a special certificate and a bag of art supplies. They then gifted Mrs. Garretson’s entire class with the funds to enjoy a class party. To top it all off, they presented Mrs. Arter, Library Media Specialist, with a framed copy of Lincoln’s artwork to hang in the library and a check for $500 to purchase new books for the Media Center. Unbelievable!
Lincoln is Clear Creek’s third winner!! As a kindergartener, Quinn Matushek was a “Bag Your Favorite Book” contest winner in December of 2014. Also as a kindergartener, Declan Coleman was a “Bag Your Favorite Book” contest winner last school year. We are honored to add Lincoln to this list of great artists turning their talent into new reads for the entire CCE community!
Congratulations, Mrs. Arter!
Mrs. Dandra Arter, CCE Library Media Specialist, was recognized as Clear Creek Elementary’ s “Teacher of the Year” during the all-school assembly Thursday, December 17th!
Many talented Clear Creek teachers were nominated for this prestigious award during the designated window this past fall. Each nominee was then tasked with answering questions regarding their professional career, community service involvement and leadership opportunities. A district formed committee reviewed the information and selected one “Teacher of the Year” representative for each of the 12 buildings in our district to be awarded before winter break.
Next, Mrs. Arter will work to write additional essays describing her professional biography, philosophy of teaching, and activism within the education profession. After submitting that work in January, the review committee will select one elementary teacher and one secondary teacher to represent our school district as the USD 232 “Teacher of the Year.” Those results will be shared in early March.
Best of luck, Mrs. Arter…
We are proud of you!

Author Jefferson Knapp visits CCE Students
Jefferson Knapp is from El Dorado, Kansas and this is his 6th year of full time writing. A graduate of Butler Community College, Knapp's career path has changed from stand-up comedian to children's book author. The Ending Feud is his third book in The Kingdom at the End of the Driveway series. He is thirty-five years old. He has a step son at K-State and he shared his love of animals with us and all the animals he had growing up (from a goat to dogs and a pot bellied pig).
Author Marsha Barrett
Marsha Barrett spent thirty-four years working with students in Johnson County as a teacher, principal, and district administrator. Her book Sammy Snail and His Cousin, Sedgwick Slug details most of the life of the snail and the slug, During her presentation, Mrs. Barrett read her story and visited with the students about how she was inspired to write her first book and some other details about publishing. She is also the grandmother of Charlie Barrett in 1st grade!
Did Your Child Enjoy the Two Authors Who Visited Clear Creek?
Great news! Due to many parent requests, we are able to make the books offered from both Marsha Barrett and Jefferson Knapp available through a second chance order! Please see the attached order forms due with payment on January 8th, 2016. Please contact Dandra Arter at darter@usd232.org or Allison Nelson at anelson@usd232.org if you have any questions!
