SEE THROUGH THE SMOKE ASSEMBLY
The Assembly
The PCOE Prevention Department travels throughout Plumas County (from Chester to Portola) educating the students on Tobacco, Alcohol and Drug Prevention. Brought to us by the PCOE Prevention Department and using TUPE (Tobacco Use Prevention Education) funds, students experienced the Dynamic Influence presentation by Edutainer Robert Hacnenson Jr.
The goal of the Presentation was to educate our youth on the Myths and Dangers of Vaping. See the attachments to learn more about Robert, the Edutainer.
THE ISSUE:
Teens continue to use different forms of tobacco while expanding into vaping ( e-cigarettes) and have different views on marijuana. In fact, according to the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention)
- 2.3% of middle school and 9.3% of high school students reported that they smoked cigarettes in the past 30 days.
- 1.8% of middle school and 6% of high school students reported they used smokeless tobacco.
- 5.3% of middle school and 16% of high school students reported that they had used e-cigarettes in 2015
- More teens believe marijuana is harmless and 12.6% of teens used marijuana in 2015
