Friday, December 7
Retirement days are ahead for.....
Sorry I've missed you the last couple of days, but.....
We are in the countdown to the end of semester 1. Yay! For ALL of you, now is the time to reflect...
- Are you happy with how your classroom culture has evolved?
- Are you checking for understanding at the highest levels?
- Are all students cognitively engaged at all times?
- Do your lessons include a quick closure activity to solidify new learning?
Are there a few things you would like to improve or change? If so, start planning for a "new" first day and begin redesigning your systems and procedures to roll out on Monday, January 7th. It is important to own this process now, as what you allow WILL continue. Do you need help? Feel free to speak with me or your colleagues to gather ideas.

Christmas Lunch Pitch-in:
Tuesday, December 11th—Soup & Desserts
We plan on ordering lunch out one day during December for those that are interested in participating. More info to come.
Wear your ugly Christmas sweater on Friday, December 14th. If you wear one and want to be in the contest, send a "selfie" to the South Staff by 9:00 am. Everyone may vote on the winner by sending their vote down by 12:00 pm. We will reveal the winner on the announcements at the end of the day!!
Tuesday, December 18th we will have a staff celebration at 2:30 pm.
- To keep potatoes from budding, toss an apple into the bag.
- Turn bread upside down while cutting it. This will save you from getting those annoying squished slices that nobody wants.
- Use condiment bottles filled with icing for an easy way to decorate cookies and cakes.
- Take note of your body's position in the morning. This is probably your most comfortable sleeping posture, so posing this way before bed can help you get to sleep more quickly.
Reminders
- Nominate a Student of the Month for any outstanding student you might have.
- Don't forget....Send any students down to the office with a "positive referral" to sign the Great Big Book of Awesomeness. Students who sign will get a notification to take home to their parents.
- It's now the end of November....time to update South's Data Dashboard if you haven't already.
- Don't forget to "Sign In" each week on the 2018-19 PD Sign in for PGP Verification" Doc

Click on the link to access a bookmark to use when reading nonfiction texts. It lists examples of nonfiction text features you can locate in a nonfiction text to "Preheat your brain" before reading. We have been using it in RTI, and the kids seem to like it. Feel free to print some for your students!
