Thalberg Weekly Parent Update
Mrs. Katie Reeves, Principal
October 9, 2020
We had a wonderful week at school. Teachers are beginning to work on their Open House Presentations to share with families. As you know we are unable to have Open House in the building this year, however our plan is to provide you with the same information through a video or video slide presentation that you would typically have received on Open House night. The Open House links will be sent to you no later than October 30th. The links will come to you from me and will be posted in your child's Google Classroom.
The teachers are preparing families and students for the possibility of having to switch to remote learning. This can occur for several reasons and hopefully it will not occur at all this year. Last week you received a tool kit from your child's teacher. This is to be used if we need to make a pivot to remote learning or a hybrid model. As you already know in order to be best prepared for this, we’d like you to take the time to log into Google Classroom with your child. See attachment below which is a tutorial the district put together with all of the information you should need for remote learning. We want the students and families to be prepared to make this a smooth transition if necessary. It is also important for you to know what cohort (A or B) that your child/children are in. Teachers will be providing you with this information soon.
Have a wonderful weekend!

News from the Health Office
The State of Connecticut requires schools to perform mandated screenings annually. Your child’s class will be having vision and hearing screenings next week.
Students often have this exam performed by their private physician. The state is allowing parents to opt out of the screenings this year. If your child has had a physical within the last year and you do not want the screenings performed at this time, then please notify the Thalberg health office.
As always, you can contact the health office if you have any questions regarding any of the required screenings.

District Survey Regarding Hybrid Learning
In the event of a school or community increase of confirmed COVID 19 cases, the district may switch our elementary or middle levels from the current in-person model to a hybrid model. The high school has begun the school year in the hybrid model.
The district’s hybrid model divides the total in-person student population into two cohorts. (Cohort A and Cohort B) In a hybrid model, half the students attend in person and the other half of the students learn remotely each day.
Please click the survey link below to review and choose between the two options the district would like families to consider.
Parent Survey re: Preferred Hybrid Cohort Rotation
While we understand no one model will accommodate the needs of all families, our goal is to gather feedback in order to determine which of the two presented is the most preferred model in our community.
