JKC Holiday Wishes and Updates

JKC....ONE team!

We are Back into the "swing" of Things!

Comstock families, time is marching on quickly! It seems like just yesterday we were at Meet the Teacher Night anxiously awaiting the start of the school year. Now, the leaves are turning colors, cooler weather is on the horizon, and the calendar reads OCTOBER- almost NOVEMBER. Time really does go by quickly when you are having fun!

It is such a treat to walk into classrooms and see, in person, the amount of progress our students have made in just a few short weeks. Our kindergarten students are confident, building independence, and growing rapidly as readers and mathematicians. Our first and second graders are continuing to soar as readers, through building reading fluency and digging deeper into texts to bolster comprehension. In math, they continue to build number sense and problem solving strategies. Our third and fourth graders are "old pros". They are fine tuning their comprehension skills and strategically responding to texts to demonstrate their understanding in reading. In math they are working to become more efficient with their math strategies, and strengthening problem solving skills. Our fifth graders have settled comfortably into their role as campus leaders. They are working to move to a deeper level with reading and math skills as they determine who they are as learners and choose strategies to best suit their learning styles. At all grade levels, our students are developing writing skills and a love for the craft of written communication. In science, students are enjoying hands-on experiments designed to make learning come alive. In social studies, students are learning about our world community, our past, and what makes our state and country so great.

Learning at Comstock is in full swing, and our students are enjoying every minute! I am looking forward to seeing what wonderful things are just over the horizon for our community of learners!

Important Reminders

COL (Celebration of Learning) Schedule- It's almost time for our first nine weeks' celebration of learning! It will be held on October 30th. We will be having TWO celebrations in order to comfortably accommodate our parents and students. The celebration for Kinder, First and Second Grades will be held in the cafeteria at 8:00. The celebration for Third, Fourth and Fifth Grades will be held in the cafeteria at 1:15. Please remember to stop by the front office this week to pre- register and obtain a name tag for the celebration you will be attending. Our assemblies are well attended, and check- in lines tend to be long on assembly days.

Holiday Goody Bags- The holiday season is just around the corner. As a reminder, according to district policy, students are only allowed to provide goody bags for their classmates on the three designated school party days. Since Halloween is not included as one of those designated party days, students are not allowed to bring Halloween treat bags to share with classmates.

Time, Place and Manner

Elementary students may only bring items for distribution to classmates on the three party days designated by the school – prior to winter break, Valentine’s Day and end of year. For the winter holiday party date and the end of year party, the items can be left at a designated table/desk for voluntary pick up. On the Valentine’s party date, the card/treats may be placed in the classmates’ sack/box on his/her desk.

Lost and Found- Our lost and found is growing quickly. We have quite an assortment of lunchboxes, jackets, sweaters, water bottles, etc located just outside of our cafeteria. Please help us by labeling your child's belongings so we can get them returned. You are also welcome to stop by to look through our lost and found for items your student might be missing. Thanks for your help with this!
