Lively Middle School

January 21, 2022

Greetings Falcon Nation,

Thank you Lively PTSA for the snacks, kn95 masks, and support this week! Teachers and staff really appreciate your efforts to make us feel special and keep our school safe!

Online Registration

Online Registration is now open for the 2022-2023 school year!

Registration is required each year for our existing students. Please log into your Parent Portal and locate the Registration Tile. For additional information regarding online registration, please visit our Parent Portal website at

Early registration helps us plan for the new school year.

Lively will have registration events to assist families with registration on the days below:

  • Thursday, February 3 from 3:30p.m.-5:00p.m. (rescheduled from January 20)
  • Monday, February 21 from 9:00a.m.-3:00p.m.
  • Saturday, March 26 from 10:00a.m.-12:00p.m.

Free Breakfast in the Classroom and Lunch

Meals are free for all students this school year. Students can enjoy free breakfast and lunch, as well as afterschool meals regardless of household income and without any application or documentation.

We encourage all students to dine at school. As a federally funded program, we receive reimbursement for each meal served; the more meals we serve the more funding we have to invest in the quality of our food, maintain local jobs, and support the Texas economy.

Even if a student brings food from home, they can still choose to enjoy a free meal, or select sides to accompany their sandwich. As long as a student selects three different meal components with at least one being a fruit or vegetable (ex. banana, veggie dippers, and milk), it qualifies as a free lunch meal.

AISD menus regularly feature chef prepared, scratch-cooked recipes made in the kitchens at each school using locally grown or produced, sustainably raised, and clean label ingredients

Attendance Challenge

January 10th - February 7th is a 20-day perfect attendance challenge for our students. Students who have perfect attendance for these 20 days will receive a goodie bag.

While students do need to stay home if they are ill, attendance remains a key factor in student success. To receive credit for courses, students must have 90% or better attendance for each class. Students with higher attendance also have higher grades and experience better learning outcomes than students with frequent absences. If students are well, it is important for their success for them to be at school.

*Students will not be penalized for COVID related absences.

MAP Growth Update

Mid-year MAP Growth Reading and Math testing is complete. Next week, students will be receiving printouts of their MAP Growth scores in their Math and ELA classes. These family reports give an overview of the strengths and learning needs for each student. For more information about the MAP Growth Family Report, check out the link below that explains the report in detail.

Twilight is a program we have to help students who have attendance below 90% and/or a failing grade in a core or high school credit class. Students will receive an invitation by school messenger to their home sent to the parent/guardian next week. If you receive this invitation next week- students are required to attend Twilight starting on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. Students will have until Thursday April 21, 2022 to make up attendance and/or failing grades through Twilight.

SEL Whole-Child Update

This week we kicked off Black History Month through analyzing songs and making connections to Martin Luther King, the Civil Rights Movement, and our own lives.
Big picture

Next week we will begin exploring the 13 principles of Black Lives Matter by introducing the core values of this movement. This is our second annual celebration of Black Lives Matter at Lively, and we are excited to continue supporting our BIPOC communities!

Lively is so excited and proud of all our Falcons, but a special shout out this week to our Multilingual learners! This week, students read Emmanuel's Dream and showed their understanding of the text through drawing and writing in English and their home language!

In Ms. Elizondo's 6th grade math class, students engaged in statistical analysis! Students created a survey question, collected data, and represented the data using graphical representations.

Every day we have a variety of challenges on campus, and the article above describes just some of what campus staff deal with daily. I know that staff shortages and vacancies are an urgent need and we are working tirelessly to provide curriculum and teachers for our students. Our staff is doing everything possible to meet the needs of students and support our teachers. I ask that you extend us patience and grace as we continue to work through daily challenges.

Finally, I’m happy to share that we have found a 7th grade Math teacher, Ms. Tseng. She will join us officially on Jan 25th, but will spend next week on campus familiarizing herself with her students and Lively school community. We are excited to add another member to the Lively Team! Please let me know if there is anything we can do to support your child or family as we tackle challenging times together. As always, have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you on Monday.

Dr. Stacie Holiday, Principal

Any amount you can give will help support us in creating a memorable and meaningful experience for our graduating 8th graders. Any surplus donations will be used to sponsor other celebration days throughout the year! These events are so important for students to have positive experiences with their teachers and peers, and can provide incentives for engagement and good behavior! We very much appreciate any gift you can give for our wonderful kids!

Travis High School course selection at Lively

This week, students zoned to Travis High School and others interested in Travis programming completed their course selection. A copy was sent to the caregiver email address on file with AISD. Students who missed Travis course selection will have future opportunities to complete. Ms. Lamm will arrange this at a future date.

athletic corner

Girls soccer and boys basketball seasons are underway! Attached below are copies of their schedules (girls soccer plays on Saturdays and boys basketball play on Thursdays).

With Austin being in stage 5 COVID19 restrictions, the number of people attending indoor sporting events has been limited. Only 2 family members are allowed into the boys basketball games per athlete, this does include children. No students will be allowed into the games unless they are escorted by a parent and are related to one of the athletes that is playing. Everyone attending will be required to wear a mask.

The girls soccer game that is scheduled for January 22nd will be played at Travis High School, not Lively Middle School, as it says on the schedule.

Let's Show the Lively Staff Some Love

Let's show the Lively staff some love this month by stocking the Staff Lounge with (mostly) healthy snacks and quick lunches. Parents are invited to donate items such as trail mix, nuts, fruit, microwave popcorn, granola bars, instant soups, chocolate, cookies, etc. Donations can be dropped off in the office.

PTSA delivered kolaches to staff Wednesday morning. ALL the snacks in the photo are already gone (taken to teacher classrooms).

Welcome Back (Award)!

Welcome back for the Spring Semester! Help the Lively PSTA earn the Texas PTA Welcome Back Award by joining today. We need 10 new members in January to earn this award. It's not too late to join PTSA! PTSA membership and dues support your child by funding essential educational and curriculum needs; advocating on behalf of children and educators at the local, state and national levels; and building an inclusive school community for all families.

We invite you to join PTSA for your child because increasing our membership, by even one, makes it possible to provide important educational resources, speak up on important issues and create a stronger school community. There is no wrong or right way to be involved — anything you can give, whether it’s time or money, will support your child’s potential. Email if you have any questions.

Show Your Voice

It's time to start thinking about the Reflections Program for the 2022-23 school year. The theme for next year is Show Your Voice. Find a way to Show Your Voice through Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, or Visual Arts. Submissions are due in October so artists have time to create something special. Reflections is a National PTA Program which provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts which boost student confidence and success in the arts and in life.
