Meadow Park News

Principal's Corner
Hello Meadow Park Families,
The first week of remote learning for all is in the books and we are continuing to learn how to best meet the needs of students in this ever changing situation. Detailed information about our schedule can be seen HERE. We are attempting, as best we can, to funnel all communication and assignments through Canvas. If you need help with Canvas, please head HERE. We are also having staff post their office hours on a single document for your access. You can view that HERE or by visiting our website.
One common request from parents during this move to Canvas has been either wanting to see more or fewer emails from our staff. Canvas has options for parents of when and how to receive updates. Our choir teacher and resident Canvas expert has created a 1 minute video on adjusting these settings which you can view HERE. Please check it out if you are curious about how to change your notifications. If you need a more detailed document, you can refer directly to the documentation HERE.
We are actively working to develop plans around the following:
Locker Cleanout
Chromebook Check-in
8th Grade Recognition
Student of the Month
Incentivizing Online Engagement
Providing School Supplies/Internet Access for those in need
More updates will come on the items above as the year continues to roll on. If you have ideas or feedback to share on any of the above, feel free to send it my way.
As always, we appreciate your continued engagement as we navigate Remote Learning For All together. I hope your students were able to access their classes this week and begin learning again. Please let us know if you have questions, concerns, or if there is anything we can do to support our community at this time.
Make it a great week!
Jared Freeman
Principal

PARK Expectations
As we engage in this new format for learning away from school, we are asking that students AND parents/guardians, together, review our PARK Expectations - focused on remote learning. We want to remind students that we are still participating in school and we expect that they will stay Positive, Aware, Responsible, and Kind, just as they would when they are with us at school. Please let your child know that there is an assignment to complete in CANVAS. They will review the PARK Remote Learning Expectations and submit an assignment recognizing and acknowledging that they understand these expectations. Thank you for your support in helping us to create a positive community for all of our learners at Meadow Park.
Is your Chromebook not working?
If you are unable to use your Chromebook because it needs to be fixed, send us an email (see above) to get a replacement. We will set up a time for you to bring your Chromebook to Meadow Park. Please send your request to the "Student Help Desk" and Mr. McDonald will help you.
Email: shd@beaverton.k12.or.us
Please provide the following information:
Student name & ID number
Reason for a replacement Chromebook
Time that you can pick up/swap the Chromebook
Tuesdays 9:00 - 11:00 OR Fridays 9:00 - 11:00
IMPORTANT: Meadow Park Forecasting Information
Has your 6th or 7th grade child completed the Meadow Park forecasting process? If not, please ask him or her to log onto CANVAS and complete the forecasting process. Current 6th graders should be following the 7th grade forecasting directions. Current 7th graders should be following the 8th grade forecasting directions. There should be a CANVAS invitation in your son or daughter's school email. IF he or she does not complete forecasting by Monday, April 20th - there is a chance they will not have a say in what electives they can take for the 2020-2021 school year. We have to get started on the staffing process for the 2020-2021 school year. Thank you for reminding your child to complete this CANVAS assignment. See below for directions, as well.
Friday's Wellness Minute
Mr. Engel presents this week's 6th Grade Wellness Minute Episode 2
Ms. Caballero presents this week's 7th Grade Wellness Minute Episode 2
Mrs. Brownell presents this week's 8th Grade Wellness Minute Episode 2
Each week our counseling team will be sending out a Wellness Minute. We are asking all of our students to engage in the Wellness Minute on Fridays. These slide decks will also be posted on our school wide, grade level CANVAS page (6th), (7th), and (8th). It will be pushed out as an assignment each Friday morning.
Check out pictures from our first virtual spirit week!
Attention 8th Graders...want to be part of the Westview Cheerleading Team?
Are you attending Westview this coming fall? If so, now is your chance to be a part of the 2020-2021 Westview High School Cheerleading Team. Due to the unique situation we are in, they are offering a no cut registration to be a part of their Fall team! Registration will be open through Friday, May 8th. For more information visit www.westviewcheerleading.com
Schools are Closed/Trespassing
As per Governor Brown’s direction all schools are closed for the remainder of the school year. Community members continue to gather on school property – in parking lots, fields, and stadiums – and this is trespassing. District Administrators may contact law enforcement and report trespassers as needed. Approved events where community may come to schools include Wi-Fi access for families, Chromebook distribution, and other school led events.
Safe Routes to School Challenge
Thank you to our District Families for participating in the first week of the Safe Routes to School April #WEwalkchallenge! So many amazing photos of flowers were submitted! The winner for week #1 is Anna Hoffmann, kindergarten student at Oak Hills Elementary. She will receive a new bike helmet when school resumes! Congratulations, Anna! Please join us for week #2 and be on the lookout for insects and bugs!
This week we are encouraging families to submit photos of insects and bugs and will select another helmet winner at the end of the week.
