Tustumena Elementary Newsletter
4/29/15- Update from our District Office
The following is a news release from our district office.
Please forgive me for the higher than usual number of newsletters this week. I will always try to balance my interpretation of things you will want to know, with overwhelming you with too much information. I felt you would want to have updated and accurate information on this topic. The "central peninsula" schools referred to in this announcement, as being on safety watch or heightened awareness, does not include Tustumena Elementary School.
Soldotna, April 29, 2015—Law enforcement notified KPBSD about an alleged safety concern in the Soldotna area concerning unidentified local area schools. Law enforcement is conducting an investigation to determine a level of credibility. There is not a direct threat to any specific KPBSD school at this time.
As a precautionary measure, we do have schools in the central peninsula on safety watch or heightened awareness. Classes and schools are operating as normal with increased supervision of recess and activities on school grounds.
No KPBSD schools were in a lockdown on Wednesday, April 29, 2015.
All school activities, classes, recesses, bus schedules, and so forth remain on a normal schedule. All after-school activities will take place on a normal schedule.
We will continue to make every effort to maintain a safe learning environment for all students and work with law enforcement. We believe our schools are safe and we will continue to provide a high level of supervision—as we do every day—at our schools.
We will provide updates if and when additional accurate information becomes available.
Parents, please contact your school principal with questions.
