Reforming Society

-Charities help the poor and the disadvantaged

-Campaigns against child labor; Children got paid 60 cents for a 10 hr. workday... Children working bent their backs and crippled their hands

-Safety Codes; limiting hours,lights, air, room size, and sanitation

-Prohibition - Laws banning the manufacture, sale, and consumption of alcohol (Progressives thought it was the reason for society problems, drunk-ness lead to physical abuse and sickness)

-Progressives go against big businesses --> Sherman Antitrust Act - Thought that businesses needed regulations

-Jane Addams; Opened famous Hull House in Chicago in 1889 (Settlement House) - Opened its doors to recently arrived European immigrants - Opening doors for the European immigrants to have a place to live

-Common people supported the way The Progressives wanted to reform society

-Government were against the reform of society
