Mother's Day: A Celebration For Our Mothers!
For their love, patience and care for us, our mother's should be celebrated every day, not just today! In the month of May, we not only honor our own mothers, but the mother of Jesus. Our Blessed Virgin Mary is a model of love for us all. It is an incredible gift that the Easter season includes the Marian month of May. As we continue to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus, it is only fitting to celebrate His mother and our mother too. To all of our mothers, have a happy and blessed Mother's Day!
Mass Readings for Sunday, May 9: Sixth Sunday of Easter
In this weekend's Gospel, John recount's Jesus' message of love. He shares two important ideas:
- God commands us to love each other. And by each other, He means everyone.
- God commands us to love exactly like He loves.
In our everyday discussion, we use the word, Love, so much. But is often hard to define or describe what real love means. Especially when explaining to your children, it is almost impossible to give a real dictionary definition of love. And we only really describe it through actions and examples.
However, in this Gospel, Jesus tells us a lot about love in these verses. He says His Father God loves Him, and that He loves every one of us in the same way that God does. Love makes us happy, so we are to love others like both God and Jesus love us. Then we will be truly happy and have joy in our hearts. Jesus chose us, calls us His friends, and tells us everything about His Father God because He loves us so much. He wants us to be kind and loving to everyone β even our enemies. This is the one command that He wants us to follow: Love one another as I love you.
Mother's Day Wheels Family Activities
As we show appreciation and love to our mothers and the Blessed Virgin Mary, below are two fun craft ideas that children can create. These Mother's Day Wheels are bright, colorful, and can include a personal message of love, humor, and message from the Bible, similar to the pictures shown below.
If your child chooses to create these crafts or any other crafts, please send us pictures of your Mothers Day celebrations together! We will spotlight these photos in next week's newsletter!

Fan Catch of the Year!
Philadelphia Phillies fan were amazed at this one-handed catch, without a glove, coming from a ball soaring at 97mph at this week's New York Mets vs. Phillies game. When this fan caught the ball, he didn't even spill a drop of his ice cream!
Although the Phillies lost to the Mets at home 7 -8, this fan ended up the champ of the night!
