Victor Senior High School
December 2019
12/23 - 1/3 Holiday Recess
SENIOR NEWS
Finish Up & Submit Your Applications by December 6th if you have a late December or early January deadline
HERE'S WHY: College Admissions Counselors recommend submitting your applications by the end of December, if you can. But note, the Victor High School Holiday Recess is December 23—January 6 and transcript requests will not be sent to colleges during that break. Therefore, all requests for 12/31 or 1/1 deadlines need to be made by December 6th. Also, for Rolling Admissions and Spring deadlines, you'll increase your chances of holding a spot in your major and avoid any last minute problems if you submit applications by December 31st. Note that some colleges have an earlier date for scholarship consideration than their application deadline. Please familiarize yourself with your college's deadlines and act accordingly. Check your college websites for this information!
MCC Instant Application Day
Our MCC Instant Application Day is scheduled for Thursday, (B day), Dec. 12, 2019 at 12:00PM in the Library Nook. This is an opportunity to complete the application with the admissions counselor on hand to answer your questions. There is no application fee! You will submit the application with your transcript and learn of the college's decision in two-three weeks. You will need to know your social security number, but there is no application fee. Don’t miss this opportunity!
***Advanced sign up in the College & Career Center is required to attend the MCC Instant Application Day.***

Naviance News
Continue to finish your “Letter of Recommendation Profile” in Naviance, and as you list the colleges you're applying to, request transcripts. Be in close contact with your Teacher Recommenders, and give them as much information as you can, especially if you have an early deadline. If you have an early deadline like Early Decision (ED) or Early Action (EA), it's very important that you indicate that in Naviance and also let your School Counselor know. See Mrs. Zollo or Mrs. Turner if you need any help navigating Naviance.

Preparing for the College Application Process
You should be continuing your career research and beginning to look at college majors and degree programs. Mrs. Zollo will visit your English classrooms after midterm exams to work on the College Search in Naviance. If you give some thought to a career path, what you may want to study and/or the location of the school you may choose, you will have a head start on this process. Exploring colleges and majors helps to make sure you choose a school that is the right fit for you.
In addition, you and your parents should check collegeboard.org for Spring dates for the SAT and ACT tests, and plan your test dates around your extracurricular activities and family events.
Finally, think about planning college visits during school vacations. You can check out our many local colleges and/or schedule visits to schools on your travel route. Visiting colleges and universities will help you get an idea where you'll feel comfortable attending, help you learn more about those schools and allow you to compare those colleges with other schools you visit. You'll have a better understanding of large schools, small schools, urban, suburban, dorms and other facilities. All of this information will help you narrow your application list and choose the school that is best for you.
