I Make a Difference
From Katie Bennett
For this week's I Make a Difference Award, I would like to recognize an individual who goes the extra mile and has made a difference in my life, Mr. Tim Blum. In his four years at Landstown High School, Tim has made an impact on Eagle Nation both in and out of the classroom. He works tirelessly with the 11th grade students to help prepare them for their SOL's, often giving up his planning block and/or one lunch time to tutor them. He stays after school to assist with after school activities and works with the girls’ soccer team. He is the first person to jump in and help whenever he can, including settling a rap debate! Above all, Tim is a kind and humble gentleman who does not see how much of an impact he has on those around him. Thank you Mr. Blum. You truly make a difference every day.
Final Advisory Activity Sign-Up Reminder
As mentioned at the Monday staff meeting, our final Advisory session, Eagle Nation Celebration, will take place on Monday, June 10, our final and awkward “A” day. To make this a success, we need all hands on deck, no matter what grade level your Advisory class is, to provide a variety of activities that will interest and engage our students! This is your chance to decide which activity you would most like to host. Remember as you make your selections that activities can be indoor or outdoor, don't have to be content related, and can even revolve around your hobbies/interests/passions that you want to share with our students. To give your input, please complete this form by no later than the end of the school day on Monday, May 13.
TestNav /Wifi Load Verification
In order to be prepared for SOL testing, we are going to be conducting a school-wide load test of the TestNav software and Wifi on TUESDAY, May 14th during 2nd block. This process will occur directly after announcements and should only take five minutes. We ask that all 2nd block teachers please follow the instructions below:
1. Wait for the announcement to be made
2. Instruct students to power on their chrome books and DO NOT LOGIN
3. Have them click on the APPS Icon
4. Select TestNav
5. Select Virginia
6. When the screen shows the sign in prompt, the student will press the power button and turn off the device
7. The teacher will complete this online form to verify the test was completed /report issues
Thank you so much for your help to ensure that our students and staff have a positive and successful testing experience!

Schoology Program Evaluation
As part of the School Board's approved the 2018-2019 Program Evaluation Schedule, the Schoology initiative is slated for evaluation. The evaluation for this year will focus on the level of implementation across schools and stakeholders’ perceptions. The staff survey will be administered online. The Office of Research and Evaluation will send survey invitations directly to the VBCPS email address of principals, assistant principals, teachers and instructional technology specialists Monday, April 29. The email will come from Surveys@VBSchools.com. The administration of the staff survey will remain open through Friday, May 10.
Chromebook Collection & Inventory
As the school year comes to a close, please note the following information related to Chromebooks:
- Any damage to Chromebooks such as broken screens, missing keys, etc. should be repaired prior to SOL testing. Have students take any damaged equipment to the TST (Mr. McCollum) so it can be replaced.
- The school store sells replacement chargers for $20.00
- We will collect Chromebooks from seniors from Tuesday, May 28 through Thursday, May 30 in room 233.
- Students in Grades 9, 10 & 11 will keep their Chromebooks over the summer. They will be checked by their English teachers with a check sheet provided to them. They will ensure students have their correct Chromebook and make sure it remains in good condition.
- During the summer, any damaged devices can be brought to the TST for repair.

Our goal is to get these items finished/into the queue before the summer so please submit before May 15.
2019-2020 Professional Learning Program Information
Start Preparing for Next School Year with Schoology PL On Your Own Time and At Your Own Pace
Are you ready to start using Schoology with all of your classes next school year? While many of you have already made the leap from Google Classroom to Schoology this school year, as a school and a division, we will all be making that leap beginning in the 2019-2020 school year.
To help prepare you for this transition, Krissy and Erik have created Schoology Learning Boards full of tutorials and resources on a plethora of features that you will likely use within Schoology. They have created three boards that align with the categories established by the VBCPS Navigational Markers: Toes in the Water, Waist-High, and All In, terms used to depict comfort levels with Schoology.
Between now and May 31, you should review all three learning boards, beginning with the Toes in the Water board. When you feel comfortable with all of the features on this learning board, you should complete the required exit ticket reflection to earn 2 PL points and also gain access to the next learning board. Then, repeat that process, working through the next level boards completing each required exit ticket when you are comfortable with the features. You can earn up to 6 PL points, 2 per learning board. Please be honest about your abilities and in your reflection, as this will help us to create more effective Schoology training that meets everyone where they are and provide the support needed to make this transition. If you have any questions, get in touch with Krissy, Erik or one of our stellar Schoology Champions.
