THE GIFT OF TIME
Since there is nothing pressing on the agenda for this week's staff meeting, we're going to cancel it. If something comes up, you may get a "Meeting in a Memo".
INDIVIDUAL LEARNING PLANS
Everyone should be sharing their ILP/Goals with Cathy. You can share them through Drive or print out a hard copy. If you are not on the evaluation cycle this year, you have until October 15th to turn in the paperwork. If you are on an evaluation cycle, please share prior to Wednesday's ILP Day or bring it with you.
SNAPSHOT DAY - CANCELLED
Unfortunately we need to cancel next week's Snapshot Day. We will let you know as soon as we have found another day and have secured the necessary subs.
RECESS 101
If you are having any concerns or problems with Recess 101, please share the details with Cathy.
INTERMEDIATE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT AND GAMES
Instead of sorting playground balls by grade level/color, Justin will be sorting them by game type. Certain colors will be designated for 4-Square, Wall Ball, Soccer, etc. Because of the continued rough play and injuries that happened with flag tag this week, we are making all forms of tag off limits on the intermediate side of campus until further notice.
HALLOWEEN PARADE AND PARTIES
Thanks to everyone for their ideas around how to schedule our Halloween celebrations. We will be having a whole school parade at 10:00, but we're opening up the timing of parties. In an ideal world, Halloween would be "over" at recess, but after talking with Manny, it sounds like it will work best if the classroom celebrations are scattered throughout the day. Please share the time and location of your party on this form. This flexibility is a change from the information shared in the parent newsletter, so you'll want to update your room parent too. Thanks!
STEAM NIGHT SUPPORT
We have a number of staff members who have signed up for STEAM Night as an adjunct duty. Thank you!! We could still use some extra help, so if you're able/willing to donate thirty minutes (or more) during the event, please let Mary Fran know.
MONDAY MAKERS
Beginning Monday, Sept. 24th, students will have an opportunity to Make Masterpieces with Hana on Monday, from 12:20-12:50 in the Makerspace.
Hana is a college student who will be helping in the Makerspace. Mary Fran will also be in the Makerspace while Hana is working with the students. Please choose 1-2 students from your class to send each week. The schedule of Hana's activities for the first three weeks is below.

Tech Tips from Lisa
We now have a Google account for substitute teachers. You can share Google Doc sub plans with this account: avsubs@unionsd.org. I have written instructions for the subs to log in and view the plans. When the sub arrives I will make sure they have a MacBook and the printed instructions for logging in. This should be an efficient way to share links and other information with your subs. More information below. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Details:
- Go to AV Shared/Technology/Alta Vista Substitute Google Docs Info if you want to see or print the instructions for subs.
- Please use this naming convention for the sub plans you plan to share (Ex: Hammer 1/23/17) This is what I have in my instructions.
- Share your sub plans with avsubs@unionsd.org
APPLE TV TROUBLESHOOTING
I have seen two Apple TVs that had an issue today. The iPad or Macbook trying to connect to it got a message about "Unable to connect". It seems the Apple TVs updated over the weekend. You will need to find the Apple TV remove (the little remote) and press the top "button" (trackpad) twice to step through a couple "Continue" screens. I suggest you try to connect to you Apple TV before you need it. Please let me know (via Hangout) if you need help.
ACCOUNT REQUESTS FOR NEW STUDENTS
I have created a Google Form that teachers can use to submit requests to me for accounts/setup for their new students. Please submit this form (link below) and select the programs that your students need. If you have a not-so-new student who still needs some setup please submit the form for them as well. This form will help me track these requests and ensure that we don't forget to set up all accounts needed. Please let me know if you have any questions or additions to this form.

District Office News
This coming Wednesday (September 26th) is Character Day. Last year there were 133,000 events in 150 countries related to this day! If you would like your students to join this global conversation around the importance of developing character strengths such as resilience, empathy and kindness, please start with the resources linked below. We have also created two activities in Union BELL to showcase our participation in Character Day: "Character Day Tweet" and "Character Day Creation."
