January Newsletter
2019-2020 School Year
Half way through the year! .... Wait, already?!
In the month of January we have quite a few things going on. It will certainly be a busy month of us! Within our January Newsletter, you will find important information and events/dates to be aware of, as well as brief descriptions of what is happening in each class. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. As always, we thank you for your continued support at home.
Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center Field Trip
If you are interested in volunteering, we'd love to have you join us! However, please understand that we are unable to accept everyone. Please let Mrs. Tennie know if you are interested. Volunteers will receive additional information as the date gets closer. Finally, if you are interested, please keep in mind of the below items:
- Unfortunately for this field trip, volunteers are not included in Lineville's field trip package. The cost for each adult is $16.
- Also, you will need to meet us at the facility, as there will not be enough room on the bus for additional passengers.

Housekeeping Items
House Picture Day
- On Monday, January 27th, we will be taking our house picture. Please send your child to school wearing their Badger Burrow apparel, Wisconsin Badger apparel or the color red on this day.
Homework
- Please remember to be checking your child's planner at home for assigned or missing homework. If you child has lost their planner, they should have a picture on their iPad of the day's assignments. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
What's Happening in the Classroom
- As we wrap up the 2nd quarter, we have grown a lot as readers and writers already this year. I have been so impressed by our first major writing assignment, which was our personal narratives. Students did a great job with that. It's also been amazing to see how students enjoy their time reading in class. Please encourage them to continue their reading at home. We've started our non-fiction reading & writing unit, where we'll be exploring attributes of non-fiction books and researching a topic. Students will then be presenting facts about their topic. We are currently in the middle of a read aloud titled, The Boy Who Dared about a young boy who challenges Hitler. Students have been captivated by this book & it has allowed a lot of great conversations about that time in history, while also modeling thinking and analyzing texts.
Math
- We are wrapping up our third unit (multiplying and dividing fractions). Grades will be posted next week. Next, we will be moving into multiplying and dividing large whole numbers and decimals. Since, there are many ways to solve these types of problems, if your child is struggling at home, please do not feel as if they need to solve them the way we are teaching them at school. We are flexible and understanding that math methods are not a "one size fits all". Therefore, if you help your child at home with a method you learned, that is okay!
Science
- As we move into our second semester, we are starting our human body unit. During this unit we explore transport systems (circulatory, respiratory and digestive). We have many exciting experiments, projects and activities planned. For our first circulatory experiment, students will need an empty water/soda bottle with a cap! Please send this to school with them by next Wednesday, January 22nd.
- During our human body units, we are always looking for presenters to come in! If you work in the medical field and would be interested in coming in, please let Mrs. Tennie know and we will arrange something.
Social Studies
- During social studies, students are learning about the 13 colonies and the events that led up to the revolutionary war. Similar to science, during these units, students partake in many activities that allow them to "experience" what it might have been like for a colonist during this time period. Starting in February, students will start working on a revolutionary war wax museum project. More information will be sent home about this as it gets closer.
Lineville Spirit Week
Donor's Choose - Support a Classroom. Build a Future.
DonorsChoose is a company that makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Teachers spend hundreds and thousands of their own dollars on their classroom to provide a learning environment that helps ensure all learners succeed. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests.
The Badger Burrow has a Donor's Choose project currently posted. The project was created in hopes to purchase flexible seating options for students. While seating options may not seem like a big deal, it allows for students to remain focused while be able to move their squirmy bodies. Students love being given the option to choose in life. By allowing them to have different seating options, students feel in control and can choose an option that will help them be more focused in class without disrupting their peers. The wobble stools and exercise chair are both options that are allow movement for students who like to fidget, while still being a safe option that does not take up a lot of room.By providing my students with flexible seating choices, they get to have personalize how their going to learn and will be eager to be in this environment and engage.
If you feel led to contribute to our project, please click here.
