The Bennett Bark Community Edition
December 1, 2023
Welcome December!
It was great to see so many families join us last week for our Family Engagement Night! We want to thank you for your amazing support and collaboration in our school community. We have seen so many wonderful achievements and accomplishments from our students, staff, and families so far this year. We are proud of the work we have done together to ensure the well-being, learning and safety of our students.
Please save the date for our first Coffee with the Principals. We would love to see you on Wednesday December 13th at 9:15am. Our Advanced Learning Dept. will be joining us to share information and answer questions about domain specific services, supports and the program in general. More details will be sent out soon. We hope you have a fantastic and relaxing weekend.

December Community Impact Project
How does our Bennett Community care for others? Our Student Leadership Team came up with a community impact project for this month. Students are still busily preparing all their ideas for this project so be on the lookout for more details in the coming weeks. With the focus of Compassion and Gratitude, our students wanted to bring our community together to make a difference for others. The project will also tie to Global Goal #3, Good Health and Well-Being from the Sustainable Development Goals. We will be collecting items from our school community to donate to organizations that are needing socks, gloves, hats, or self-care items (like soap, deodorant, toothpaste etc). Students will be creating posters to hang around the school advertising the project and asking students to participate by bringing in items to donate and by dressing up for our fun theme days. We have chosen the week of Wednesday, December 13th through Tuesday, December 19th so that the five days leading up to winter break will be the days that students can bring in donated items. Each day will also have fun dress-up theme days, such as “silly socks day” or “winter wonderland day” that try to tie in with our impact project. It should be a fun way to make a difference for others.

Inclement Weather
Inclement Weather and Potential Closure Reminders
Winter is approaching and may bring unpredictable weather. BSD encourages families to take the time to revisit the district’s emergency closure schedule protocols and our emergency closure decision-making process. During instances of inclement weather or severe conditions that could result in a delayed or canceled school day, BSD will communicate any schedule changes to families through direct messages, including email, text message, phone call, social media, FlashAlert, local media and posts to bsd405.org. Learn how to update your contact information in ParentVUE and set message preferences in SchoolMessenger to receive inclement weather and emergency communications according to your desired methods. While these decisions are made for the district at large, conditions may vary across the district. We encourage families to make personal decisions based on their specific circumstances.
