May 20, 2022

Dear Bobcat Virtual Families,

Congratulations to all of our Bobcat Virtual seniors who are finishing out their K-12 school career this week! We could not be more proud of you and know you will do amazing things in the future. Your time in Bobcat Virtual has taught you to be flexible, hard-working, organized, and resilient! Those will be qualities that will serve you for a lifetime!

Parents of seniors - make sure you have thoroughly read through this communication that was sent out by the high school in April. It includes information about MANDATORY Senior Checkout taking place next Tuesday, May 31, and MANDATORY Commencement Rehearsal taking place in the morning on Thursday, June 2. I look forward to seeing you all at Graduation at 7:00pm on Thursday, June 2!

For the rest of our students, don't forget common work submission deadlines for the second semester of Bobcat Virtual are as follows:

  • Elementary classes and middle school classes that do not give an exam and are not tied to high school credit: Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at 11:59pm
  • High school classes and middle school classes that have an exam and are tied to high school credit: Friday, June 3, 2022, at 11:59pm, with exams the following week

BVL Elementary Student End of the Year Playground Meet

The BVL Elementary teachers would like to invite all of our elementary students to an end of the year picnic at the playground.

Please join us on Tuesday, June 7, from 11:00am-1:00pm, in the South Pavilion at Bicentennial Park (1505 E. Grand Blanc Road, Grand Blanc, MI 48439). This is the pavilion closest to the main playground.

Families should bring a picnic lunch, and the teachers will provide a dessert!

5th Grade & 8th Grade Celebrations

Based on the results of our surveys, we will hosting an in-person walk-through 5th and 8th grade celebration this year. This is the same process being used at West Middle School.

All 5th and 8th grade students are invited to attend a Bobcat Virtual Moving On Up event on Thursday, June 9th. This event will take place at West Middle School, 1515 Reid Rd., regardless of the grade or home school of your student.

Parents/Guardians can sign up for a time slot from 5:45-6:15pm using this link. There will be room for fifteen students to sign up at a time, and each student is invited to bring as many guests as they'd like.

Students and guests will enter through the main entrance to check in before being directed to the cafeteria. Once in place, your student will be ushered onto the stage where they will receive their recognition certificate and then exit the opposite side of the stage. Photos can be taken throughout the process, and we will also have some stations set up for additional picture opportunities.

The "event" will last approximately 10 minutes from the time your family enters the parking lot, comes into the building for the award, and exits the building. Any 8th grader who does not attend this event will receive their certificate in the mail.

Things to Know

8th Grade Cedar Point Trip

Our GB 8th grade students have been invited to participate in the 8th grade Cedar Point Trip with West Middle School. There are a limited number of seats, so sign up right away. Once seats run out, students will be placed on a wait list in case someone is unable to attend.

If your student is interested in attending, please read through all of the information on the first page of this registration (which includes specific times/location for drop off and pick up) and then complete the registration information that follows. For your team, select BVA. The absolute final deadline for registering is Thursday, May 26.

At the end of the registration, you will have the option to pay with a credit card through SchoolPay. If you need to pay with cash or a check, please bring the $80 payment to the West Middle School office by 3:00pm on Thursday, May 26.

K-8 Yearbook Distribution

The yearbooks for our K-8 students will be available for pick up in the BVL Lab, located in the HS West Campus (1 Jewett Trail), beginning on Wednesday, May 25. Yearbooks are only available for students who pre-ordered one. Stop in any time between now and the end of the school year.

Registration for 2022-2023

Before the school year ends, make sure that you complete the Grand Blanc Online Registration process. This information must be updated every year before students can start school in the fall. (This is for our GBCS families and does not include our partner school students.)

When you first access the registration, it will say that your student is a Bobcat Virtual student for next year. If you told us your student will be returning to the building next year, you will be able to choose the appropriate building on the last page of the registration process.

If you have changed your mind since you initially told us your plans for next year, this is how you will indicate your final placement.

In addition, if you have moved outside the district and would like to stay in GBCS for next year, please complete the District of Choice application by Sunday, July 24.

5th Grade ONLY - Kent ISD Student Perception Survey

Our district is taking part in the Kent Intermediate Superintendent Association (KISA) Student Perception Survey in Spring 2022.

The survey will ask students in grade 5 questions about their experiences at school. Topics covered include perceptions of their engagement, social-emotional learning and diversity. Survey data will be used by your administrators to identify strengths and areas for growth. The survey does not ask questions regarding drug or alcohol use, intimate relationships, political or religious affiliations or other personal information. Because our students are learning in a virtual environment, not all questions may apply.

Students will be asked to complete the survey online using a computer, tablet or mobile device. The anonymous survey is designed to protect students' privacy.

We encourage all 5th grade students to take part in the survey, as we hope to gather a lot of important information on their experiences. Participation is voluntary. Students may skip any question they do not wish to answer. Students may stop participating in the survey at any point without penalty.

If you have a 5th grade student and would like him/her to participate in this survey, here is a link:

College Board Accounts

A College Board account is required of all students. If you do not have a College Board account set up, please do so at www.collegeboard.org . The student needs to be the one to set this up. Do not set up a second account. This account is needed for PSAT9, PSAT10, and SAT review, score viewing, and score sending to colleges. Please keep your login and password somewhere where you can find it as needed. These accounts are sometimes used during class time. If you already set up an account and cannot remember your login and password information, please call College Board at 1-866-756-7346. Staff do not have access to students information.
Senior Documents

This links you to a Google folder with valuable information regarding senior dates, college planning, financial aid, etc. Make sure to check this folder regularly as new documents and communications will be added throughout the year.
