Message from Mrs. Wilken
Dear Trailblazers,
For those of our families who are celebrating Diwali, your Stone Ranch family wishes you a beautiful holiday and a happy new year!
The end of October brings many activities to an elementary school campus. This week, during National Red Ribbon week, we discuss what it means to make health and safe choices for our body and mind. Next Monday we will be celebrating Halloween on campus with a costume parade for all students TK - 5. It is also a minimum day for students with a 12:25 dismissal. Teachers and staff will be participating in professional development during the afternoon.
A friendly reminder, all students should arrive at school and be walking through the gate no later than 7:38-7:40 every day. Instruction begins promptly at 7:45am. Please continue to partner with us in making sure all students in their seats and ready to learn when the 7:45am bell rings.
I hope you all had a good weekend, despite our big San Diego Padre losses. :(
It was exciting while it lasted and time to look towards next year!
Go Padres and here's to another TRRFCC week on "The Ranch".
Proud to be Your Principal,
Mrs. Wilken

New! Preliminary 2022 CAASPP Results
Preliminary 2022 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) results are available for our individual students and our school.
Test scores are recorded as Standards Exceeded, Standards Met, Standards Nearly Met, and Standards Not Met.
In English language arts, an overall average of 81 % of our Stone Ranch students met or exceeded standards on the 2022 CAASPP.
In mathematics, an overall average of 79 % of our Stone Ranch students met or exceeded standards on the 2022 CAASPP.
CAASPP was administered to students in grades 3-8 and grade 11 during the Spring of 2022.
If your child took the CAASPP, you can access their individual results through ParentVUE.
Directions for using ParentVUE are linked here.
Please keep in mind that these scores are only one measure of an individual student’s learning. Data from these assessments is used as part of a broader picture of student achievement. Teachers use these results in conjunction with site and classroom assessments and observations to help tailor instruction throughout the school year.
This was the first statewide test given to California students since 2019. Following the pandemic, the 2022 test was significantly revised by the California Department of Education (CDE), providing a new baseline for school districts and sites to measure progress moving forward.
Due to the significant changes in the test, districts and sites are unable to make direct comparisons with previous years’ results. However, consistent strong results are indicative of system-wide collaboration by parents, teachers, and school staff to facilitate student success.
We are proud of our students and know their accomplishments are reflected in a variety of ways. CAASPP results are one measure of progress and should be reviewed alongside other learning information as well.

NEW! K12 School Funding Forum
Join us Tuesday, October 25, 5:30pm to 7pm in the PUSD District Office (located at 15250 Avenue of Science).
It will also be live streamed and recorded here for those who cannot attend.
Poway Unified is hosting a K12 School Funding Forum for interested staff, families, and community members. This meeting is for anyone who would like to learn more about how school and school district programs, facilities, and staff are funded.
Associate Superintendent of Business, Ron Little, a veteran of school finance, will break down the complexities of school funding in an easy-to-understand presentation.
He will also answer any questions you might have, including:
- What are the different types of District funds, and what they can/cannot be used for?
- What's the difference between schools and homes located in CFDs vs. SFIDs?
- Why are school foundations having to constantly raise money?
- Why can’t PUSD just fix all of our aging schools by budgeting better?
- What is the special tax (Mello Roos) reduction plan I’m hearing about? What does that mean for my property tax bill?
This forum is part of PUSD’s ongoing efforts to provide financial transparency and fiscal accountability to our stakeholders.
We hope you’ll join us!

New! Giving Sweet Thanks to the Stone Ranch Staff
New! Giving Tree at Stone Ranch!
The holidays are a time of giving and receiving, but did you know that we have families right here at Stone Ranch who may not be able to provide their children with gifts for the holidays this year? The Giving Tree wants to help! The Adopt-a-Family program is a PUSD district-wide program where parents, students, faculty and staff help provide gifts and gift cards to be distributed to families who may need a little something extra this season.
A "Giving Tree" will be set up in the front office next week displaying apples and leaves with items on the families' wish lists. If you would like to purchase a gift or gift card for one of the families, you can choose an apple/leaf off the tree, purchase the gift or gift card that is noted on it, and drop it off in the front office with the leaf/apple attached.
Thank you in advance for helping make this holiday season one filled with kindness, generosity and love for families in our district! If you have any questions, please contact Andie Villegas, Chair of The Giving Tree at givingtreesres@gmail.com

All students with a fever must be home and 24 hours fever free before returning to school.
If you need to know the latest COVID protocol, you can always refer to the PUSD website here. You are also welcome to call the health office with any questions at 858-487-8474 x4108 or email Rachael McKinnon at rmckinnon@powayusd.com.
