Hawk Happenings
December 8, 2023
Be Not Afraid!
Today we celebrate the Immaculate Conception of our Blessed Mother Mary. We had a nice mass this afternoon with Fr. Dan Jurek and Deacon Dave Miskell in celebration of this Holy Day of Obligation.
Last Saturday, we were excited to host 44 future Hawks at the Class of 2028 Placement Test! We know of several students that weren't able to make it that day as well, so they will make up the test at a different time. Then, that evening, we unveiled the State Championship Photos that are being added to the gym lobby. There was a great attendance that night and a lot of energy in the gym!
On Wednesday, our FFA traveled to Marissa High School to compete in the Ag Communications CDE. Individually they each were given a practicum to create an opinionated writing, journalistic writing, a flier, or a commercial. Our team walked away with 6th place. Nora Wirth placed 3rd overall in opinionated writing. Way to go Hawks!
On Thursday, the Intro to Ag class went on a field trip. The Intro to Ag students have recently been discussing the Dairy Industry and the Horticulture industry. We were able to tour Parker Dairy Farm. Students were able to view robotic milking, the recycling process of bedding, and hear about the calves. We also were able to visit the Millstadt Gardens and learn about their operation and the poinsettias! They had a great day!
Earlier this week, The Republic Times released the Republic Times All Local Boys Soccer Team. We had many boys who were listed on the team. Congratulations to the following: 1st Team: Kanen Augustine, Brady Biffar, & Gavin Kesler. 2nd Team: Marvin Nambo-Limon & Michael Wessel. Special Mention: Andy Altes, Ty Frierdich, & Jack Keeven. Congratulations, gentlemen!
Rafflemania Congratulations to our Early Bird Winner Jason & Kristi Moore!
We have already hit our next goal, which was 50% to our goal by December 15th! Great job Hawk families! So the students will have a dress down day when returning from Christmas break on January 4th. As a reminder, there is a link below to a Google Sheet that lists the number of tickets sold by each Hawk family. That list is not updated daily, however, it will be updated several times a week.
Our next goal that we are working towards is 75% of our goal by January 15th. We are currently sitting at 53% of our goal. Keep up the great work!
If you have any questions regarding the Rafflemania Fundraiser please contact Desiree Frasure at Gibault Catholic High School. She can be reached at 618.939.3883 during school hours or emailed at dfrasure@gibaulthawks.com.

This Week in Sports
Monday was an open day for our sports teams.
On Tuesday, the boy’s basketball team hosted the Yellow Jackets from New Athens. The varsity team kept it close in the first half but pulled away in the second for a resounding victory. The JV team wasn’t so lucky, and went down to defeat in a close, well played game. That same evening the JV and varsity bowling teams both soundly defeated Granite City on their home lanes, giving the junior varsity squad a 2-0 record on the season, and evening the varsity record at 1-1.
Wednesday saw the Lady Hawks basketball team hosting the Musketeers from Red Bud, while the boy’s freshman squad travelled to Red Bud for their game. Unfortunately the results were the same, with the Lady Hawks and the freshman squad all going down to defeat. We’ll get them next time!
On Thursday the bowling team was back in action against the perennial powerhouse Comanches of Cahokia. Although Cahokia came out on top, the Hawks received strong performances from Mia Petruso who bowled a 203 in game one, and from Noah Koeninger who came away with a 623 series.
Tonight our Lady Hawks Basketball team heads to Maryville Christian for a 6PM start.
Tomorrow night our Boys Basketball team is back in action against Mehlville with a scheduled 5:15 JV start. If you’re a basketball aficionado stop by early and catch the SPPS-ICS 8th grade game, which is scheduled for a 3:30 tip-off!
FFA Toy Drive The FFA is collecting new un-wrapped toys for Moms on a Mission who will provide 2000 local children and teens this year. Students can drop off the toys in the collection box that is in Miss Zeidler's room through Monday, December 11th.
Advent Youth Opportunities All Middle School and High School Youth are invited to join us to Pray, Reflect, and Share on December 6,13,& 20, from 5:30-6:30p.m. in the Youth House. Please RSVP to ensure enough food is available. There is an image below with details as well.
