message from the principal

I hope you are enjoying watching your children join us in their Spirit Week attire. It's been a wonderful community building week at Athena High School. A friendly reminder, to please save the date for Thursday, October 6th from 6:00-7:30 for Athena High School, and Middle School's Annual Open House. We hope you are able to make it! See you soon.

Athena Families,

Thank you for your continued support for an outstanding start to the 2022-23 school year. Working with your children every day has been a true joy!

Now that the pace of instruction is beginning to pickup, please know that we have many supports available to all students in need. If you are noticing that your child could use some assistance, please reach out to the Counseling Office at 966-4044 to set up a time to discuss options with your child's counselor. We are also happy to set up a team meeting after school to discuss as a group.

Lastly, mark your calendars for Spirit Week beginning 9/26 - 9/30! More details coming soon!

Have a great week, Athena!

Free & Reduced Lunch Applications

The COVID Emergency Meals program that provided free meals to all students districtwide during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years ended on June 30, 2022. About two weeks ago, a pink free and reduced price lunch application was mailed to your home. It is important that you complete and return it ASAP. Doing so ensures that all eligible children receive the free or reduced price meals they are entitled to, and qualify for other benefits including fee waivers for things like AP exams, SAT tests, and some college applications. We are running an accompanying sweepstakes where you can enter for a chance to win one of five prizes - a $25 credit to a child's lunch account (4 winners) or a $100 Visa gift card (1 winner), courtesy of the Center for Youth. Just email your name and phone number to and mention that you’re entering the Meals Sweepstakes. You do not need to complete the application to enter. Families are encouraged to return their free and reduced price meals applications by September 21. They can be mailed to Greece CSD, Attention Christine Viegas PO Box 300, N. Greece, NY 14515; faxed to (585) 581-8255; emailed to; or sent into school with your child. All forms must bear an original signature. Please note that October 19 is the last day free and reduced price meals applications received during the 2021-22 school will be valid. Those who attend schools that qualify for the Community Eligibility Provision will continue to receive free mails all year, regardless of household income, and regardless of whether they complete the free and reduced lunch application

Important Update:

The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) provides an opportunity for schools in high poverty areas to provide free breakfast and lunch to students in a particular building. The percentage of students eligible for free meals by means other than household income determines if a building is eligible to participate in the CEP program. Examples include Direct Certification, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) or a family income 133% of the federal poverty level as determined by Medicaid. Other qualifiers include Homeless, Runaway, Foster Children and Migrant Worker Families. Athena High, does not meet the criteria for all of these services. However, families can still qualify on an individual basis. We encourage families interested in support to complete the Free-Reduced Lunch Application so that you can determine your eligibility for qualifying for free or reduced meals, and other services, for your children at school.

ap exams

Payment for AP exams is due no later than Friday, October 28th. The cost per exam is $97. You can pay in cash or by check, made payable to "Greece CSD/Athena AP." Bring payment to the High School main office.

If you completed the Free & Reduced lunch application for your family and were found eligible, the cost per exam is $35.

If you have any questions, call Debbi Bauer at 966-4043.
