ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Friends and Families,
Today CCS held a school-wide celebration as part of our PBIS behavior system. This was rescheduled from November 16th, due to the snow day.before break! School-wide celebrations accomplish many things within our school climate. First and foremost, they offer positive reinforcement to celebrate the collective good behavior demonstrated over time by our students. They also provide times for students to come together with students in other classes and grades - this creates opportunities for socialization and personal development. School-wide celebrations are a natural follow-up to the many, more frequent classroom celebrations that take place when students meet their classroom PBIS goals. Students have input into the choices for classroom celebrations, which have included all-day choice reading sessions, extra recess, outside crafting and building and even a game of hide-and-seek throughout the school.
There is a lot of groundwork that goes into establishing and maintaining positive behavior systems and interventions in a school. Primarily, schools define positively-stated universal behavioral expectations (in all settings) - at CCS, our universal expectations are:
- We take care of ourselves.
- We take care of others.
- We take care of this place.
For each setting, students are:
- Explicitly taught behavioral expectations;
- Positively reinforced for exhibiting expected behaviors;
- Re-taught expectations based on data: This month we will be reteaching expectations on buses, in the cafeteria, and on the playground.
Alongside our PBIS systems, CCS also responds to unexpected behaviors using a “three-pronged approach” - education, repair work and consequences. Our PBIS systems and behavior responses systems are thoroughly outlined in our Student and Family Handbook. More information regarding PBIS is available at https://www.pbis.org/.
We are proud of the social-emotional growth we see in our students every day as they take care of themselves, each other and our school.
Warm Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra

LOST AND FOUND IS OVERFLOWING - EXTENDED DEADLINE
Due to the snow day before the Thanksgiving Break, we wanted to extend the deadline for finding your child(ren)'s lost items.
The Lost and Found is overflowing at CCS (see pictures below.) Please encourage your child(ren) to look for their missing items before they are all donated by end of day on Wednesday, December 5th. Parents, please feel free to come in and look for your child(ren)'s missing items as well.
PARENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES - SPELLING BEE AND GEOBEE
We will be gearing up for the late winter/early spring Scripps National Spelling Bee and National Geographic GeoBee. Typically, parent volunteers run practices for a few days each week in the two weeks prior to the events and help organize and run the preliminary rounds and school bees. Running practices requires parents to be cleared as fingerprinted volunteers. Please email Stephanie Sumner at ssumner@cvsdvt.org if you are interested in volunteering for any aspect of these opportunities for our students.
YOU SKILLS ☺ CARE PACKAGES 💙 for COTS
Students in grades K-2 will be creating CARE packages for COTS (Committee on Temporary Shelter) during December YOU Skills classes. Our goal is to make 100 CARE packages! We are looking for donations of:

2019-2020 KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Dear Charlotte Families and Pre-School Providers,
We are writing to inform you that Charlotte Central School will be opening our Kindergarten Registration for the 2019-2020 school year starting December 3, 2018. Champlain Valley School District (CVSD) is asking families to register their Kindergartners earlier this year, in an effort to get more accurate enrollment numbers for our schools. These enrollment numbers help us to plan our staffing needs for the upcoming school year and help us to coordinate our site visits for placement in the Spring.
Naomi Strada, Administrative Assistant to the Principals, coordinates registration for CCS and she is looking forward to hearing from you! You can contact Naomi at 802-425-6600 or nstrada@cvsdvt.org. Naomi will provide all of the necessary paperwork electronically or it may be picked up at CCS. Vicki Nelson (our K-2 school counselor), Tanya Vyhovsky (School Services Clinician) and Stephanie Sumner (PreK-4 Principal) are happy to help families complete the paperwork, just let us know how we can help you.
We are looking forward to meeting our new Kindergarten students and families at our Kindergarten Screening Days (February 6, 2019) and Kindergarten Visiting Day (May 24, 2019) in the Spring! This is such an exciting time for you and your child, and we are happy to be a part of this experience with you.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Sumner, PreK-4 Principal
