Newtown Middle School
Good Morning! The school year is flying by fast. June is just around the corner. The months of March and April are filled with Spring events - including the Spring Concert, Sports, Science and Reading competitions as well as the Pennsylvania State School Assessments.
Spring Sports:
Spring is just around the corner and with it comes our Spring Sports! All spring sports start Monday, March 25th. Baseball and softball will be at Helen Randall Park, while Soccer and Track will be at Veterans Park. Please make sure your child’s paperwork has been turned into Mr. Cunningham. We look forward to a fun and successful spring sports season. Let’s hope the rain stays away!
Craft Players:
The NMS CRAFTPlayers just delivered two outstanding performances of South Pacific on March 8 and March 9. Over 100 students were involved in the production, from actors and stage crew to set design and pit orchestra. It was an exciting first season in our beautiful new auditorium, under the direction of Mr. Dolan.
Reading Olympics:
After months of reading and practicing, the 2019 Reading Olympics competition is just around the corner! Thirty NMS students, under the leadership of Mrs. Demskis and Mrs. Feldman, have been preparing for the competition which takes place at Unami Middle School on Tuesday, April 9. There are 45 titles on the middle school reading list, and students have to be prepared for a slew of questions about these books. Members of the Reading Olympics team have met once or twice a week since October to prepare for the big event. Good luck, Reading Olympians
Math Counts:
This year the Mathcounts won our competition against Holland Middle School.
NMS came in 1st place at our competition against 15 other schools in Bucks County, which qualified our team for the State tournament in Harrisburg.
Science Fair:
At the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Sciences, Newtown Middle School had 11 students receive first places and qualify to go to the Penn State Finals at State College in May. At the Bucks County Science Research Competition we had four students place 1st and 2nd and will move on to the Delaware Valley Competition in April.
A large number of NMS students are moving on to advanced competitions and we wish them the best of luck!

PSSA Testing Dates
PSSA’s provide an avenue through diagnostic results for Newtown Middle School to measure our successes as well as our shortcomings. It is a wonderful way for us to celebrate student progress while also personalizing student educational needs because of the diagnostic results we receive for each individual student. Newtown Middle School is excited for this opportunity and we are confident your child is ready for this as well.
