Tech Tips for Your 1:1 Chromebook Classroom
Chromebook Check Fall 2018
THIS INFORMATION WILL BE SENT OUT TO YOU AGAIN ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30
A tablet check sheet will be provided to you Friday, November 30th that lists your students along with check boxes to indicate if any of the listed issues exist.
· If the problem is there, please mark it with a check.
· If nothing is wrong, leave the checkboxes blank.
· If a student is absent, please write “absent” next to the student’s name.
In order to properly inspect the Chromebooks, please have your students remove their Chromebooks from the case. Make sure students have their case with them and are using it when traveling between classes or home.
Please look for the following issues on the student Chromebooks:
- Cracked Corners: Cracked corners are sometimes not obvious but need a Work Order Request (WOR).
- Separating Corners (Left Side Only): Corner separating on the back-left side of the CBK. This will need a short WOR (green side).
- Lines in Screen / Cracked Screen : It is usually easier to see the lines or cracks on the screen if the Chromebook is turned on. Lines and cracks need a WOR.
- Missing Keys: Completely missing keys or ones that only have the rubber “nub” need a WOR.
- Case: If they have their case, leave the box blank. If they claim that it is “at home” place a “H” in the box. If they don’t have it or are unsure if they have it, place a “X” in the box. This does not require a WOR. Remind students that they are to have their device in the KISD-issued case when traveling between classes or school.
If you have any questions as to what these issues look like, please refer to the PowerPoint.
If you have found any of these issues on a student’s Chromebook, please have them complete an online Work Order Request (WOR) to get it fixed. The WOR system link is on StudentNet. For all issues listed above (except separating corners) students will need to click on the left (blue) side and answer questions about how the damage occurred. For separating corners, students will need to click on the right (green) side and select “separating corners”. The WOR system is how we turn in claims that are covered by the student’s Accidental Loss/Damage Protection (ADLP) plan that they purchased so it is important that they answer the questions using full sentences and describe in detail as much as possible.
As soon as they are able, students will need to take their Chromebook to the repair center after completing the WOR.
We need to do everything we can to ensure that our students are turning in work orders as soon as the damage occurs.
After checking all of your students’ Chromebooks, sign the bottom of your Chromebook Check Sheet and return it to the repair center.
Thank you for your assistance!
