PALCS' Sixth Graders & Canvas!
2015-2016
How to Log In To Canvas & Intro to Student Assignments
Adding to Our Toolbox
Canvas is a Learning Management System, like Moodle. We will add Canvas to our current tools (Moodle, Compass, Rosetta Stone) for instruction for sixth grade students in the 2015-2016 school year.
We have been testing Canvas out for a while - a small pilot course in the spring semester, and we ran summer school through Canvas this year. We are learning a lot about the system and we know this - there's a lot to LOVE about it!
Why Canvas?
Canvas has a lot of features and tools that will make learning more engaging for our students. It functions very similarly to Moodle, so students who are used to working in Moodle will have a very easy time working in Canvas. And for those who are new to cyber in general, it will be equally as easy!

Why Sixth Grade?
How Will Students Access Their Courses?
Students will still log in through PALCS School - Moodle. We have been working hard all summer to develop a process that is easy, clean, and makes sense for students and parents!
When Will Students Be Trained?
When students log in on Monday for the first day of school they will be directed to their Language Arts course, where the very first set of lessons will be about navigating Canvas.
How Does This Affect 6th Grades in USP?
Sixth grade students in the University Scholars Program who are taking cyber electives could have one of their electives in Canvas (some music and technology courses are being offered through Canvas). However, 6th grade core courses (USP courses) are remaining in Moodle.
