Unity Preschool News
January is our registration month so please return your registration forms and fees by next Thursday, January 21 so that you have a spot for next year.
Just a reminder that we will not have preschool this Monday, January 18 because the FMSD will be closed in recognition of the Martin Luther King holiday and the following Monday, January 25 because the FMSD has a teacher workday.
Chili for Children Fundraiser - ON-LINE
Traditionally, on Super Bowl Sunday, Unity Preschool has hosted a Chili for Children Fundraiser to raise money for our Preschool. This year, we are doing an on-line fundraiser and have asked our church members to donate what they would have in past years to purchase our chili and soup. Donations will be used for our Unity Preschool Scholarship Fund. This Fund was established for prechool families to use for tuition when they face unexpected financial hardships such as a job loss during a school year.
Beginning now through Sunday, February 7, you are invited to donate to the Preschool Scholarship Fund using this link: https://unityfortmill.org/give/special-offering/
Thank you in advance for your support!

Spirit Day - TEAM DAY
Our Spirit Day for January will be Thursday, January 28! We will wear shirts of our favorite teams (professional or college - any sport). Ms. Sonia, who is also a Playball Coach, will be leading each class in some fun sporting activities.
Next Spirit Day is Thursday, February 11: Valentine's Day - We will wear pink or Valentine attire and enjoy parties in our classrooms.
Teacher Feature - Ms. Lauren
Ms. Lauren Lochel, our Three's Frog Lead Teacher, is a very proud third generation native of Fort Mill. She met her husband, Matt, while studying to be a teacher at Winthrop University. While there she received her Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education and while teaching, she received her National Board Certification in Early and Middle Level Literacy. Ms. Lauren taught for 9 years in the Fort Mill School District (Kindergarten and 1st grade) before deciding to stay home with her children for a few years. Ms. Lauren was the Fort Mill School District Teacher of the Year in 2010.
Matt and Lauren have been married for 13 years and have two children, June and Hudson. June is in the 3rd grade (and a Unity Preschool graduate) and Hudson is in 1st grade at Kingstown Elementary. Lauren's family are very active members at Unity Presbyterian Church. On the weekends, they love to be outside walking the Greenway or around the neighborhood.
Favorite Music: Ms. Lauren loves any kind of music. She especially loves any kind of music she can sing along to!
Favorite Book: Ms. Lauren loves reading books in her free time. She is a part of her neighborhood book club where she gets to read all different genres. Her favorite children's book is Poppy the Panda!
Favorite Activities: Ms. Lauren loves to go out to eat but also cook at home with family. She loves walking and visiting the beach whenever she can with family or friends!

Thank you for your faithfulness in keeping your child home if you or your child are not feeling well. We currently have one student who is quarantined because of a positive test. The entire family tested positive BEFORE we returned from break so no one at Preschool has been exposed. Fortunately, only dad has mild symptoms and the rest of the family are feeling fine.
We recognize that CDC quarantine guidelines are confusing and changing. We have a direct contact with DHEC so if you have any questions regarding whether you think your child should quarantine, please just ask. We pray that we continue to remain COVID-free.
