Viking Newsletter--April 2018

A Message from Administration

Dear Whittier Families and Friends-

It is hard to believe that we are in the month of April and only two months away from the end of the 2017-2018 school year. The next two months will be busy ones with ISAT testing, grade level field trips, Schoolwide Viking Values celebration, PTO sponsored events and the graduations of our Kinders and 6th graders. This is such an exciting time of the year.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our families, friends and community partners for all of your support this school year. Your involvement, appreciation, help and generosity have helped make this a fantastic school year. It is an honor and privilege to work with all of you and your students!

Construction Update

If you haven't driven by Whittier in a while, you must! What a difference a few months makes!

The masons have about 16 feet of brick placed around the gymnasium and cafeteria, with about 12 feet to go. Once complete, they will move onto the music room and kitchen areas. The structural steel for the academic area is in place and decking for the second floor is in progress. Once the second floor deck is in place, our construction crew will have plumbers and electricians place their 2nd floor penetrations and prepare for the concrete slab. They plan on placing the slab the week of the 16th.

We will see walls starting to be framed around the academic area early next week, with the electricians and plumbers falling right behind them. Moving into the spring season, we will see some of the site work areas starting to take shape to prepare for summer sidewalks and pavement.

It is an exciting time!

THANK YOU COACH CRYSTAL

On behalf of the Whittier family, we want to take this opportunity to give a huge THANK YOU to the phenomenal Coach Crystal! What an amazing soccer program she has started. This year we had over 200 students participate in Whittier's FĂștbol Club. Coach Crystal volunteered a tremendous amount of hours at practices and games. There are no words to express our gratitude for her dedication to our students and families. We are so lucky to have Coach Crystal as part of the Whittier community. THANK YOU COACH CRYSTAL!

Change for Change Contest -April 2nd-13th

Whittier students are challenged to gather spare change for a chance to win an extra recess. Send your spare pocket change with your child any or everyday. Each grade level has a jar in the front office. If their jar gets filled, they earn an extra recess in the nice weather. All proceeds go the Whittier's PTO. We appreciate your support!

It's Track Season!

Our student athletes are in full swing with track season. They had their first track meet on Tuesday, April 3rd and the team came back with a lot of accomplishments. They will participate in several more track meets over the next few weeks. If you'd like to come out and support our Vikings, call the school for the schedule. Go Vikings!!!
