From our Academy of Biomedical Science and our HOSA Club
On Friday, March 16th, 15 students participated in the second annual HOSA Spring Leadership Conference at Johnson and Wales University. The students have been preparing for the competition since October and events that they participated in included CPR and First Aid, Transcultural Health, Community Awareness, Health Education and Biomedical Lab Science. After competing in the morning, students toured the JWU campus and listened to presenters from the university and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. Awards were presented and the Community Awareness team which includes Maud Highfield, Alexis Surtel, Lauren Malouin and Valerie Zammarelli, received a perfect score and a gold medal. Isabella Palumbo, Eden Palmer, Olivia Santilli, and Siena Caledonia won silver in the Health Education event with their presentation on nutrition. Both teams are now eligible to attend the International Leadership Conference in June. The winners will also receive scholarships to Johnson and Whales!
Congrats Ms. Donovan!
Kevin Brooks to Speak at SHS on March 22nd - Thanks to Scituate Prevention Partnership!
Kevin is Canada's leading speaker on impaired driving, suicide prevention and overcoming obstacles. He is living proof that one poor choice can change one's life forever, or even end it. From his wheelchair, Kevin Brooks shares the story of the night that changed his life forever... Kevin left a party, driving at excessive speeds after consuming large amounts of alcohol. Kevin tells his life-changing story to audiences of all ages and sizes across North America and has reached nearly half a million people in well over 1,000 high schools and community sponsored events. His honest and straightforward presentation impacts students and will impact them like none other. His unique style of motivation will inspire people to appreciate life in a profound new way, and in turn, make better, smarter, moment-to-moment decisions.

2018-2019 Program of Study is Out!
Students in grades 8-11 will have a two week window to review course requirements, talk with teachers, family members, and school counselors and will choose their courses for the 2018-2019 school year. Students should visit the Digital Program of Studies Website below and begin to make choices for next year on Wednesday, March 14th at 3:00 PM. After students have uploaded their choices into PowerSchool, each student will meet with their Guidance counselor, one-on-one, during the month of April so that next year's schedule can be built.
Student Survey
The window for the RI Dept. of Education Surveyworks survey is now open for students in grades 9-12. Please encourage your SHS teenager to complete this survey. The anonymous information will be used at the state level and locally here at the high school to make informed decisions. Thank you!
Midpoint of Quarter Three
It is hard to believe, however, we are now at the midpoint of quarter three. We encourage all students and their families to check PowerSchool and communicate with teachers and school counselors. The quarter will end on April 4th
