If a child is exhibiting or reporting one or more COVID-related symptoms that require them to be absent from school, all household members must also stay home. They will not be allowed to return to school for 10 days from the onset of symptoms. If a doctor’s note stating an alternate diagnosis or a negative COVID-19 test result is received and verified by the school nurse, they may return at that time.

3. What if my child or someone in our household tests positive for COVID-19?

Please contact your child’s school nurse immediately if an individual in the home receives a positive COVID-19 test result. It is important to notify the school as soon as possible, so that the health office can initiate communication with the Kendall County Health Department, and begin identifying potential close contacts.

A close contact is an individual who is determined to be within 6 feet of an individual who tested positive for COVID-19 for 15 minutes or more throughout the course of a day. Other factors that may qualify an individual as a close contact include physical contact and sharing materials.

5. If a student or staff member is quarantined from school and/or work, does that mean they have COVID-19?

No, there are many reasons why an individual may be required to quarantine from school and/or

work. Several examples include:

• A household member is exhibiting or reporting one or more COVID-related symptoms

• They travelled out of the country within the last 14 days

• They are exhibiting or reporting one or more COVID-related symptoms

• They were determined to be in close contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19
