Ross / Ellis Weekly Newsletter
August 28, 2015
"Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education."
Welcome Back to School!
We will be sending home a weekly newsletter each Friday. This newsletter will keep you up to date on what we will be learning in school, have pictures and videos of fun activities that we do throughout the year, and also notify you of upcoming field trips and other events.
Welcome Mr. Weiss!
Here is a message from Mr. Weiss:
Hello,
My name is Mr. Weiss and I am excited to be spending the next ten weeks student teaching at Blackburn Elementary. I want to take this opportunity to give some background information about myself. I am currently working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University. I have previously worked with students at both CC Wright Elementary in N. Wilkesboro and Mountain Crest Elementary in Morganton. I am looking forward to working with the students here and also bettering my skills as a teacher.
What Will We Be Learning This Week?
The Leader in Me
Blackburn Elementary has recently adopted The Leader In Me philosophy.
Students will learn leadership skills through Sean Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective Kids, which teaches the value of leadership and that everyone is a leader. Students will be given the opportunity to capitalize on their own talents to develop their leadership potential throughout the school year.
This week we will be focusing on Habit 1: Be Proactive. Students will learn the value of taking initiative in their lives and also how to stay positive when dealing with negative or stressful situations.
Math
We will begin 4th grade studying Patterns in Multiplication and Division and practicing Fluency with Multiplication and Division facts. Vocabulary: array, count-bys, addend, sum, difference, factor, product, dividend, divisor, quotient, and equation.
